Chapter 204 Her Past Sincerity Was All for Nothing

Luna saw him come back and quickly hung up the phone. Evelyn could never have guessed that the guy she had been obsessing over, even trying to end her life for, was the one on the other end of the line.

"You're back," Luna said, standing up to greet Charles.

Charles nodded, still looking pretty tense. "Who were you talking to just now? I heard you mention our boss," Charles asked, trying to sound casual.

Luna replied, "It was Ms. Nelson. She asked if you could meet your boss Charlie. I told her you guys are in totally different leagues. If you could meet Charlie, I'd take her last name."

After Luna said that, Charles went quiet. He thought, 'If Evelyn ever found out, she'd definitely give Luna a hard time. I don't want Luna to be embarrassed in front of Evelyn. That day will never come. I can protect Luna and keep it from her forever.'

Luna asked, "By the way, I have a question. I have a friend whose boyfriend, who she hasn't known for long, has been secretly helping her a lot. She wants to give him a gift but doesn't know what to get. Any ideas?"

Charles was taken aback. Then he smirked. She also had a "friend". Charles asked, "That friend wouldn't happen to be you, would it?"

Luna's mouth twitched. Busted just like that. Luna said, "To be honest, I want to give you a gift." Luna didn't resist after being exposed and told him about what Eric had said.

"Actually, I don't need anything," Charles said honestly. But Luna thought he was just being polite.

Luna said calmly, "Then I'll decide for myself. If you don't like the gift, you can give it away. I won't be mad." Charles didn't respond. He thought, 'give it away? No way!'

On the weekend, Charles had to go to the office for a meeting. Emily took Tommy to the park outside, mainly because her in-laws and Bobby were at home for the holiday. Bobby's siblings also came, bringing their families, making the house a complete mess.

Bobby's siblings' kids were all older than Tommy. One liked to hit people, and the other liked to throw things. If Emily wasn't careful, Tommy would get hurt. So Emily preferred to spend the day outside.

In the past, when they came over, Emily would cook and clean, serving them with good food and drinks, all according to their tastes. But after Bobby abused her, Bobby's siblings knew about it, yet none of them came to comfort or help her. The sister-in-law, Nina Hill, who used to call her affectionately, acted as if she were dead after the incident.

Previously, when Nina took her cosmetics and daily necessities, Emily never complained, treating her as the youngest daughter of the family, surely showered with love.

But this time, even though Nina knew Bobby had hit her, she didn't mention it at all when she called. Instead, she subtly urged her to be understanding towards Bobby, saying that he was currently in a crucial phase of his career with significant work pressure, and a bit of physical aggression wasn't such a big deal. Emily immediately retorted, "How many times did your husband hit you during his career rise?"

Nina didn't respond and changed the subject, saying they would have dinner at home on the weekend and asked Emily to buy crabs and shrimp. The crabs had to be half male and half female, and the shrimp had to be full of roe. Nina gave orders as if she were instructing a servant.

In the past, Emily would comply for the sake of family harmony, but now she understood that her past sincerity was all for nothing. She would rather spend the whole day outside with Tommy than go back.

At this moment, Luna called, inviting Emily and Tommy to visit her. Luna had asked Charles if it was okay to invite Emily over for dinner. Charles didn't object and even helped them order takeout from Harmony Haven Hotel.

Emily got on the bus with the address Luna gave her, unaware that someone had already started following her.
