Chapter 212 Father in Name Only
"The living room surveillance has been broken for a while? How long has it been broken?" Bobby asked nonchalantly.
In fact, his smug expression had long been noticed by Emily.
"It's been broken for three months."
After Emily finished speaking, Bobby calculated the days. He had only started abusing Emily in the past month, so he immediately felt relieved.
"Broken is broken. I'll dismantle it tomorrow. It wasn't worth the hundred dollars anyway. I'm hungry, make me some pasta. And look at the mess in the living room, you don't even clean it up. The kitchen is like a pigsty. If you don't eat, consider it a diet, but what about Tommy? He's so young, aren't you afraid he'll get sick from eating this mess?"
Bobby claimed it was for Tommy's sake, but he rarely held Tommy when he was home. Mobile games were far more appealing to him than his child.
Once, Emily had a fever of nearly 104 degrees and was lying in bed feeling awful. She asked Bobby to watch Tommy for an afternoon. He found Tommy a nuisance to his gaming, so he deliberately made Tommy cry and then threw him onto Emily, saying that Tommy cried whenever he held him and he couldn't soothe him.
Emily, with a high fever, held Tommy. Later, just as her fever subsided, Tommy got a fever, and Bobby's whole family blamed Emily for infecting Tommy.
The Hill family never mentioned her struggle of taking care of Tommy while having a fever of 104 degrees.
When she saw Bobby's reaction to the broken surveillance, Emily sneered, pushed Bobby out of the room, and locked the door.
Bobby cursed outside for a while. Seeing that Emily didn't respond, he felt relieved, thinking she had no video evidence of the abuse to threaten him with.
His commotion woke Wendy up.
"Mom, I'm hungry. Make me some noodles. And if Emily won't clean up, you should. Aren't all these messes made by Barry's and Nina's kids? Tell them to come over less often. Every time they come, it's like a tornado hit."
Bobby was also annoyed by his brother's and sister's kids, but he didn't mind before because Emily used to clean up. Now that Emily had stopped, it affected his life, so he finally decided to speak up about it.
"I will make you some seafood noodles. Just wait a bit. Every house with kids is messy. Just clean up more often. You drew the short straw marrying someone who doesn't help around the house or contribute financially. Both you boys give me such headaches. Barry's wife only giving me granddaughters! I told Barry they should try for a third - if she can't give them a son, maybe they should reconsider things!"
Wendy muttered as she went into the kitchen. Soon, there were loud noises from inside. She was making a big show of it for Emily to hear.
When the noodles were ready, Bobby took one look and lost his appetite.
"Mom, what did you cook? Dishwater? I'm not eating this."
Bobby threw his chopsticks and went into the study.
Wendy looked at the noodles, feeling sorry for the shrimp and scallops she had put in. She sat down and ate them herself. Even though it was leftovers from lunch, it was still seafood.
Mountain Vista Gardens, Group 3.
Early in the morning, Sophia posted a "heart-wrenching" message in the group.
[Dear neighbors, sorry to bother you. I am Sophia, a tenant in Phase 1, Block B. Recently, something happened that turned my once peaceful and happy life upside down. These days, I cry every day, feeling utterly miserable.
I have tried many ways to contact the owner of the third floor of Villa 15, but they have not shown up. I am at my wit's end and have no choice but to speak up in the owners' group.
Please, help me, a poor orphan. If anyone can contact them, please tell them to let me go! Even if I have nothing, I cannot lose my beloved brother!]
