Chapter 147 It's None of Your Business

Emily pushed Tommy home, only to find her in-laws out and Bobby missing.

She went to put Tommy to bed and noticed the gift box on the bay window was gone.

In the kitchen, she saw only two vacuum-packed pig trotters left; the other eight were missing.

Wendy had moved fast. Even though Emily and Luna had only chatted for a bit, eight pig trotters were gone.

It was clear Wendy took them for Bobby's siblings.

That evening, Emily's in-laws returned and saw she had only cooked enough pasta for herself and Tommy. Their faces darkened.

David was about to lose it when Wendy tugged his sleeve.

"It's okay. I saved two pig trotters. We can cut them up and share."

Wendy was a master at stretching a dollar. Two pig trotters, cut up, would barely be enough for four people.

In the midst of their conversation, Bobby came back. Seeing no food, he turned to leave, but Wendy stopped him.

"We have pig trotters at home. I'll quickly stir-fry some greens. If she doesn't cook, I will. You and Tommy won't go hungry. I'm not heartless!"

Emily felt disgusted hearing Wendy mention Tommy.

As if Wendy had ever held Tommy a few times.

Emily held Tommy in one arm and took a pig trotter from the fridge with the other.

"Sorry, there aren't two pig trotters left, just one. I ate one earlier."

Wendy's face changed drastically.

"Then you don't eat tonight. Let them have it as a snack."

Wendy reached for the last pig trotter in Emily's hand.

Emily pulled her hand back, avoiding her.

"What are you doing? How can you be so selfish! Your husband worked all day, and can't he even have a pig trotter? There were only two left, and you want to eat them all! How can you be so malicious! Look at how much you weigh!" Wendy berated her with all sorts of harsh words.

Emily had been heartbroken long ago, so she didn't feel hurt.

Instead, she smiled at Wendy.

"Luna gave me ten pig trotters, not just two! With so many to go around, everyone could have had two, and the rest could be for Tommy or whoever wanted more."

"But you took yours and gave them to Bobby's siblings, so don't even think about grabbing another bite. These two are mine!"

With that, Emily sat on the couch and started gnawing on the pig trotter.

She loved meat, but after having Tommy, she rarely ate pig trotters because Wendy said they were bad for breastfeeding and wouldn't let her have any.

Cooked pig trotters cost about $6 each, and she couldn't afford to buy them often.

Now, she wasn't going to miss out on the ones Luna had given her.

Wendy was infuriated. They had come back hungry from their daughter's house because they didn't want to trouble her to cook.

They had indeed taken eight pig trotters to share with their son and daughter, but she had left two at home.

"You... you weigh 160 pounds! And you still eat!" Wendy had nothing else to say and could only criticize Emily's weight.

Emily took a bite of the pig trotter and said slowly. "I'm eating my own food, not spending a penny of yours! The child hasn't cost you a cent either! I do what I want! It's none of your business!"

"Emily! How can you talk to my mom like that!"

Bobby angrily threw down his utensils and rolled up his sleeves, ready to charge at her. Emily took another bite of the pig trotter and casually picked up the fruit knife on the table with her other hand.

Bobby's steps halted abruptly.

"Shrew! I'm not going to stoop to your level!"

Bobby wouldn't admit he was scared. He cursed and slammed the door as he left.

Wendy and David knew she could be serious when she got tough, so they cursed and left as well.

Emily put down the pig trotter, wiped the grease from her mouth, and her eyes turned red. She almost couldn't hold back her tears.
