Chapter 168 We Should Just Apologize
At home, Travis was fuming at Ella, his face red with anger.
"I warned you not to take Eric's chocolates, but you ignored me! You take a few every day, then save the box, put the chocolates back in, reseal it with tape, and pretend it's unopened for me to give away. Now it's all blown up, and the supervisors and team leaders who got the chocolates are giving me the cold shoulder."
"They think I'm insulting them by giving them pieced-together chocolates! Do you know how hard my life is now? I'm constantly being scrutinized and criticized! I'm just a chemistry teacher. I don't want to be a homeroom teacher or get a promotion. I just want to retire peacefully, but you insist I suck up to the leaders."
"Now what? I doubt I'll even be able to teach chemistry much longer!"
Travis felt distressed thinking about his recent experiences at school. He wished he could just disappear.
The people who got the chocolates were his superiors, and they scolded him frequently. Meanwhile, his colleagues who didn't get any mocked him behind his back.
But when Ella handed him the chocolates, Travis didn't strongly refuse. Now that something had happened, he was blaming Ella.
"I think we should just apologize. Luna doesn't seem like the kind of kid who won't let things go."
Travis couldn't stand the sarcastic and mocking environment at school anymore. He suggested apologizing to resolve the matter quickly.
"What are you talking about? We did nothing wrong. Why should we apologize to her? Are you out of your mind? And you're a teacher! I've always thought you were timid and incompetent. If my daughter weren't so honest and unpretentious, I would never have approved of your marriage! Do you know how many better suitors she had? Not a single one of them was worse off than you!"
"You've been a teacher for so many years and haven't even become a homeroom teacher, let alone a supervisor or vice principal! Other teachers make almost twenty thousand dollars a month just from tutoring, and you're still stuck with a five-thousand-dollar salary!"
"It's only in recent years that your salary has increased a bit. When you were making a few hundred dollars a month, my daughter's salary was already sixteen hundred dollars! Do you think you're something special now that you're making more money?"
"You better not forget where you came from! Otherwise, I'll go to your school and make a scene! How many years have you been a full-time teacher? Do you even know your own level?"
"I'll make sure your leaders see the real you! Let's see how you continue to get by at school!"
Ella hadn't said a word, but Alice exploded first.
Alice always suppressed and denied Travis.
Alice made sure Ella tightly controlled Travis's paycheck. If he dared to step out of line, Alice, as his mother-in-law, would go to the school and threaten him.
After all, Travis was only a few years away from retirement, and he valued his job at the school. He was thin and not particularly articulate. Besides, Travis couldn't do other jobs, and definitely wouldn't dare to offend them.
Moreover, Travis only had one house. If things got ugly, he wouldn't dare to leave home.
Alice believed she had Travis in her grasp, not realizing that one day, she would be the one left homeless.
Travis was scolded by his grandmother. Although he was angry, he knew he couldn't win against this shrewish old woman.
He had endured it for decades, a few more years wouldn't make a difference. Once he retired, he wouldn't care about anything anymore.
Seeing Travis back down, Alice proudly lifted her chin and signaled her daughter to take note.
"Ethan's back?"
Alice only noticed Ethan had come in after scolding Travis, and immediately switched to a kind and doting expression.
Ethan responded, kicked off his shoes, and lounged on the couch like a king, not greeting anyone.
"I have some good news to share with you all."
