Chapter 73 Last Time Eating Was Still Last Time
Ella listened and suddenly thought of something.
"Mom, didn't you say before that Luna's paternal grandmother's family isn't doing well either? Since we can't do anything right now, why not let them deal with Luna and Eric!"
“Luna's parents got conned out of their settlement by her aunt, but at least they can cover the funeral costs! Granny's not keen, but her uncles and aunts are flat broke! Who wouldn't be enticed by the cash??"
Ella was always the most adept at stirring up trouble in the family, and she was particularly good at coming up with such bad ideas.
Alice thought for a moment and snorted.
"Back then, I didn't take the funeral expenses because they said they didn't want it. If I had taken it, they would have talked behind my back. Otherwise, I would have gotten at least half of that money."
Alice had a regretful look on her face, feeling like she had lost out.
Ella pouted, looking distressed.
"That was a hefty twenty grand! More than plenty for a car! Ethan's been itching for one for ages. I figured if Luna joined the clan, maybe I could persuade her to fork over a bit of her paycheck, and in a couple of years, we'd be there. If not, I could contribute towards Ethan.!"
“That family didn't want the funeral expenses, probably because they were afraid Luna would dump Eric on them."
"That's probably what they were thinking." Alice nodded, calculating in her mind that she couldn't let Luna off easily.
If Luna wouldn't see her, she'd go find someone else to make trouble! She couldn't let Luna have it easy!
On Luna's side, after saying goodbye to Evelyn, she didn't let her see her off. She went to the supermarket first to buy some chocolate for Eric. On the way, she received a call from Charles.
"Let's go out to eat tonight. My treat."
Charles's voice sounded muffled, and Luna felt he was acting a bit strange today.
Charles thought,‘ No kidding! Seeing you with Evelyn, how could I not feel strange?'
"That's not necessary. There's still a lot of food in the fridge." Luna thought the food wouldn't be fresh if they didn't eat it by tomorrow.
"I asked Eric this morning what his favorite food was, and he said he likes buffets. But the last time he had one was when you got your first internship paycheck."
Charles's words made Luna feel a bit sad.
Eric was too embarrassed to tell Charles that the last time they had a buffet was indeed the last time.
"I got a bonus today, so even if it's just for Eric, you should come along too. I'll be there in half an hour. Just wait by the roadside."
Charles hung up before Luna could refuse.
Luna rolled her eyes at the phone.
She could always treat him back later!
Luna picked up Eric and slowly walked downstairs, using the half-hour to let Eric get some exercise.
Eric couldn't stop smiling when he heard they were going to a buffet.
He might be more mature than his peers, but he was still a teenager at heart.
"Sis, where do you think Charles will take us? Feast Haven or Gourmet Buffet?" Eric mentioned two mid-range buffet places.
Both places had salmon and ice cream. Though the quality wasn't as good as a five-star hotel, the value for money was unbeatable.
Luna had no clue either. With Charles footing the bill, she didn't pry too much. Shortly after, Charles pulled up in his car, a vehicle worth less than twenty thousand dollars.
After parking, he skillfully helped Eric fold and store the wheelchair in the car, while Luna helped Eric into the back seat.
As the car started, Charles headed straight for the Cross-Sea Bridge.
Luna looked at the sea bathed in the golden glow of the sunset and turned to Charles in confusion, "Are you planning to sell us? Why do we need to cross the Cross-Sea Bridge just for dinner?"
The value-for-money buffets she knew were all in the city and it was not necessary for them to cross taht bridge.
