Chapter 149 I'll be Miles Away From you When Karma Comes Knocking

Luna took a breath and continued, "Once you apologize, Eric and I are done with you. I won't ask for the money or gifts back. That'll square us up!."

"And my parents' old house? Forget about the demolition compensation."

Alice yelled, "You want me to apologize? Aren't you afraid of karma?"

Luna smirked. "Relax, I'll be miles away from you when karma comes knocking."

She hung up and blocked Ella's new number. She'd made her demands clear. Whether they complied was up to them. If they didn't apologize, they'd keep facing public backlash. Luna didn't need to do anything more.

"Luna! Don't hang up! Clear Ethan's name! He's innocent! His future can't be ruined! You have to help Ethan!" Ella shouted, but Luna had already hung up.

Ella looked defeated, not even noticing Alice fuming beside her. Her phone rang, and she thought it was Luna calling back. But when she saw the caller ID, she got anxious.

It was Ethan. Despite her reluctance, the incessant ringing left her with no choice but to answer the call.

"Mom, did Luna agree to clear my name online?" Ethan asked anxiously.

Ella's hand shook. "Ethan, she refused and told us to apologize online! How can elders apologize to the younger generation? And she said we wouldn't get a penny from the old house demolition!"

The scolding left Ella feeling incredibly wronged.

"What? You asked her to apologize? Are you crazy? Couldn't you just appease her? If she asked you to apologize, you should've agreed first and let her clear my name! You've been out all day, not cooking or doing laundry, and this is what happens?" Ethan scolded his mom like she was a child.

Ella felt wronged but didn't see anything wrong with Ethan's attitude.

"Ethan, we're still trying. Don't worry. We..."

"It's been days! If the company had concrete evidence, they'd have fired me already! Do you know how many people want my job? It's a cushy gig, good pay, and room to climb the ladder! If I get axed, you'll be out of luck!"

Ethan hung up angrily.

Ella squatted by the roadside, crying. She didn't care about losing face anymore. Alice, standing beside her, stayed silent. Despite Ethan's attitude, his job was the best among her grandchildren, and she was counting on him for a comfortable future. She wouldn't offend him either.

"Mom, what do we do? Luna won't answer our calls. We can't even find her. Do I really have to apologize online? How am I gonna show my face to anyone after that?" Ella cried.

Alice's eyes darkened. "I know someone who might be able to find Luna."
