Chapter 225 I Won't Risk My Life and My Child's Life
Emily's foot slipped, and she was about to crash into a car coming from the roadside. Instinctively, she held Tommy tightly, letting her back take the impact.
Fortunately, the driver had been fully focused on driving the entire time. Seeing her about to collide, his first reaction was to slam on the brakes.
Emily fell hard to the ground, landing on her back first.
However, Tommy, in her arms, was unharmed.
The car door opened, and Danniel stepped out, frowning as he looked at Emily.
Seeing the child in her arms with a feverish red face, Danniel seemed to guess what was going on.
"The kid's sick? Couldn't get a cab?"
Danniel didn't say much, but every word hit the mark.
Emily, ignoring the soreness all over her body from the fall, stood up with the help of two passersby and repeatedly apologized to Danniel.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I lost my balance and fell. The child has a fever of 102.56 degrees Fahrenheit, and I want to take him to the children's hospital."
Emily looked as disheveled as one could be at that moment.
She was wearing wrinkled gray loungewear, with traces of Tommy's spit-up on her chest. She had hastily put on a pair of sneakers, and although she had tied her hair up before leaving, it had come loose after she carried Tommy for a while.
At this point, even her parents might not recognize her with her disheveled appearance.
"Get in the car, I'll take you to the hospital."
Danniel was only letting Emily in the car for the sake of the child.
Emily hesitated for a moment. Danniel had already walked to the car door and looked back at her with an indifferent gaze.
"If you think I'm a bad person, then forget it."
"No, no, it's not that. Thank you so much."
Emily looked at Danniel apologetically and immediately got into the car.
Danniel started the car and headed towards the children's hospital.
"Next time, don't use such a dangerous method to stop a car. If you encounter a distracted driver, it could be disastrous."
Danniel gripped the steering wheel steadily and lectured Emily.
Emily was stunned for a moment, not expecting him to think she had rushed out to stop the car.
But she had really just slipped, and her ankle was still faintly hurting.
It was probably swollen, but she couldn't worry about herself while taking care of Tommy.
"Sir, thank you very much for taking me and my child to the hospital, but I really just twisted my ankle accidentally. I wouldn't risk my life and my child's life."
After saying this, Emily lowered her head and looked at Tommy nervously.
Tommy was a small bundle in her arms, burning with fever, his entire face flushed red, and tears still in the corners of his eyes.
At this moment, only his mother was with him.
Even a stranger was better than his father and grandparents at home.
Danniel didn't say anything more. After all, he was only letting her in the car for the sake of the sick child.
Fortunately, the children's hospital wasn't far. Despite some traffic, they arrived in half an hour.
Danniel stopped the car at the entrance. After Emily thanked him several times, she rushed into the emergency room with Tommy in her arms.
Danniel's gaze shifted from Emily's bulky and anxious figure as he prepared to leave. Turning his head, he saw that Emily had left her phone on the back seat.
"Troublesome!"
Danniel muttered.
A woman being this sloppy and forgetful was really something.
Despite his words, Danniel thought that she would probably need her phone to pay for the child's registration, so he parked the car and took the phone into the emergency hall.
The scene in the emergency hall made Danniel gasp.
Recently, due to the weather change, the pediatric emergency hall was filled with parents and grandparents holding sick children, waiting to register and see a doctor. The cries of children were incessant.
Emily was the easiest to recognize.
Most families had several adults taking care of one child, but she was alone, holding the child in one arm and repeatedly searching her pocket with the other, clearly unaware that she had lost her phone.
