Chapter 223 Destroying the Evidence
Luna really couldn't remember which day of the month it expired, but Charles did.
There were only two days left until it expired.
"How could I remember such a boring date?"
Charles remembered but didn't admit it, deliberately putting on a forgetful expression.
Luna didn't think much of it, so she drank some water and went back to her room to sleep. After all, she had to get up early for work the next day.
Luna slept well through the night, but Charles had insomnia.
The next morning, Luna got up, prepared breakfast, and went to work after eating.
Charles got up after hearing the door close. When Eric went to the bathroom, he pushed Luna's room door, which wasn't locked.
Charles took a deep breath and pushed Luna's room door open.
He knew Eric would be in the bathroom for at least twenty minutes in the morning, so he took this time to look for the marriage certificate in Luna's room.
If he could find Luna's marriage certificate and secretly hide it, he could justifiably delay the divorce.
But Charles couldn't find it after searching for a long time.
It was also his first time in Luna's room.
The room was simply but warmly decorated, with daily necessities in the pink tones that girls like and a minimalist style. Everything matched harmoniously and looked clean, tidy, and warm.
Charles searched the desk drawers, the bedside table, and the dresser but couldn't find the marriage certificate.
Charles frowned as he walked out of the room, just as Eric came out of the bathroom. Every morning, Eric would wash his underwear by hand and hang it up to dry, then wash his face and brush his teeth. Because he moved slowly, it usually took him twenty to thirty minutes.
"Charles, have you seen my sister's marriage certificate?"
Eric walked around the living room and couldn't help but ask Charles.
Charles, already feeling guilty, tensed up instantly at Eric's words but tried to act nonchalant.
"How would I know where her marriage certificate is?"
"Oh, I needed a wedding scene for a comic I was drawing a few days ago, so I borrowed my sister's marriage certificate to use as a reference. After I finished, I meant to return it to her, but forgot about it. I remember putting it on the desk in the bedroom, but I couldn't find it this morning."
After Eric finished speaking, Charles glanced at the drawing board on the balcony but deliberately directed Eric to look in Luna's room.
"Your sister often helps you tidy up your room when she has time. Maybe she saw it and put it away. You should check her room; I'll look on the balcony."
Charles remembered seeing a red booklet on the drawing board before, but he hadn't looked closely. Now he realized it must be Luna's marriage certificate.
"Okay, I'll go look."
Eric didn't suspect Charles and went into Luna's room.
Charles quickly rushed to the balcony and searched around the drawing board, finally finding Luna's marriage certificate.
He opened it and confirmed it was the one he was looking for.
In the photo on the red booklet, his face was cold and stern, looking like he was there for a divorce.
Luna, on the other hand, had a confused expression, looking silly and a bit cute.
At the time, he thought the photo looked mismatched, but now it seemed like fate.
Charles immediately stuffed the marriage certificate into his pocket. When Eric came out, Charles shook his head at him.
"It's not on the balcony either. We'll have to look for it later. Sometimes things are like that; you can't find them when you're looking, but they show up when you're not."
Charles said these comforting words to Eric insincerely.
Eric looked frustrated. That was his sister's marriage certificate; how could he have lost it?
While Eric was eating breakfast, Charles went into his own bathroom.
He tore Luna's marriage certificate into pieces, threw it into the toilet, and flushed it several times.
He had thought about secretly keeping it, but it didn't feel safe.
He felt he could only be at ease if it disappeared completely.
