Chapter 146 Money Doesn't Grow on Trees
Emily felt more and more uneasy as she scrolled through Bobby's contact list, a chill running down her spine.
'If these are just colleagues and friends, why use numbers instead of names? she pondered.
She also checked Bobby's shopping records and found nothing, even though she knew he had bought clothes and socks before. How could there be no history?
Did he delete everything?
To Emily, it seemed like Bobby was hiding something.
Why else would he delete the shopping records?
The next day, Emily didn't get up until after eight because she hadn't slept well.
David and Wendy, noticing she hadn't made breakfast, made a racket in the kitchen and living room.
Emily didn't argue, but poor Tommy woke up early and cried for his mom.
Emily comforted Tommy while taking a call from Luna. When she went downstairs, Luna handed her a box of pig trotters.
"I wanted to give you two boxes, but since your in-laws are here, you probably won't eat much. The other box is at my place. You can get it anytime."
Emily gave a bitter smile, appreciating Luna's thoughtfulness.
"Can you hold Tommy for me? I'll go put these away and be right back."
Emily didn't hesitate to ask Luna for help. She went upstairs, placed the pig trotters on the bay window in her bedroom, changed her clothes, and went back downstairs.
As soon as Emily left, Wendy rushed into the bedroom and saw the box of pig trotters.
Luna was pushing Eric, and Emily was pushing Tommy as they strolled in a nearby park.
"What happened to your foot?" Emily noticed Luna was limping.
"It's nothing, just got hit by a falling chair. It's much better today. By the way, how's your evidence collection going?"
Luna was ready to help Emily however she could.
Emily shared her findings from the previous day.
Luna frowned deeply after hearing it.
"Emily, you need to be prepared. There's a good chance Bobby is involved in some shady stuff." Luna didn't want to sugarcoat it.
By shady stuff, she meant things like prostitution, gambling, and drugs.
"What are you thinking now?" Luna asked softly.
Emily exhaled deeply and said, "I'm not letting money slip away. I'll keep him stable for now, gather all the evidence, and then confront him. I'll send the transfer records and recordings to you and Summer as a backup, just in case."
"Okay." Luna patted her on the shoulder.
She knew how tough and painful this was for Emily.
After all, Bobby was her first love, and she had genuinely loved him.
She was probably the most hurt.
And Tommy, being so young, would have to grow up in a single-parent household, which would affect him. But if Emily didn't take this step, Bobby's family would drive her crazy sooner or later.
"Emily, if you ever feel down, come to me or Summer. Don't bottle it up." Luna was worried about her mental health.
Emily gave a bitter smile and said, "Money doesn't grow on trees. The best way to protect my interests right now is to endure and gather evidence!"
Emily smiled at Luna. She wasn't going to be easily defeated because she still had Tommy.
For Tommy, no matter how tough it got, she would persevere. Since she brought Tommy into this world, she had to be responsible for him.
Just like Luna, she had to take care of Eric, so she'd grind through, no matter the odds.
After walking for a while, Luna and Emily went their separate ways.
On the way home, Eric fiddled with his phone and casually said, "Charles hasn't called me or sent me a Facebook message. I wonder if he's coming back tonight."
Eric said this on purpose for Luna to hear, and she could tell.
Luna looked down at her still-healing foot and pushed Eric quickly.
"He better never come back!" she said.
