Chapter 193 Truly at a Dead End
"Let go! If you don't let go, I'll call for help!" Ethan realized it was Ryan grabbing him. Since he had some shady dealings with Ryan, he didn't dare to shout too loudly and just warned him in a low voice.
Ryan reluctantly let go with one hand but still clutched Ethan's bag with the other. Ryan hadn't slept for two days. His eyes were bloodshot, and his greasy hair stuck to his scalp, giving off a musty smell.
"Ethan, give me the rest of the money you promised so I can get out of here and hide in Yarlton for a while," Ryan said.
Ryan was here to ask Ethan for money. He had tried calling and messaging Ethan on Facebook, but Ethan didn't respond, so he came to the office to confront him.
Ethan said, "You've got some nerve asking me for money! I gave you a perfect plan, but it didn't make any waves online! I didn't see a single post about Luna's husband being a thug!"
"How dare you ask for money? Now Luna has even posted their marriage certificate, and people online are saying her husband works at the Lee Group, making hundreds of thousands a year, living the good life. I have no chance of turning things around now! You did nothing and still want money? Dream on!" Ethan mocked.
"I did do something! I spent ten grand just to hire internet trolls! But the posts either sank immediately or got deleted. Luna must have some powerful backing! Because of this, I've spent almost all my savings. You promised to cover the cost of hiring the trolls!" Ryan said.
Ryan thought that getting the money would at least tide him over for a while, so he wouldn't starve. Once this blew over and people forgot, he could make a comeback. He was still unwilling to let go of his accumulated efforts.
"When did I ever say that? Don't make things up!" Ethan denied.
Ethan thought, 'I haven't gotten any money from Luna's settlement yet, so why should I give anything to this fool Ryan?'
"Ethan, are you trying to drive me to my death? I'm really at a dead end now. Someone hacked my account and posted the troll leader's information under my name. Now he's hunting me down all over the internet! I know he has a shady background. If he finds me, I might as well be dead! You can't just leave me to die!" Ryan clung tightly to Ethan's bag, trying to forcibly take the wallet from it.
Ethan shoved him away. "Your trouble with the troll leader is your business! It has nothing to do with me!"
Seeing that Ethan was determined not to acknowledge any debt, Ryan gritted his teeth and said harshly, "If you don't give me the money, I'll come to your office every day and make a scene! Let's see who can hold out longer!" He knew how much Ethan valued his current job.
Ethan's expression changed, but the next moment his eyes shot a gloomy look that made Ryan shiver. "If you dare come, I'll report that thing you did three years ago online! Don't think no one knows!" Ethan said.
Ryan's face instantly turned deathly pale. He stammered, "W-what are you talking about? What happened three years ago?"
Ethan knew he had hit the mark seeing Ryan's reaction. But this was his trump card, and Ethan wouldn't use it lightly.
He had dared to approach Ryan before because Ethan had dirt on him from three years ago and he was confident that he could keep Ryan in check. "If you don't want people to know, don't do it. I've uploaded the photos to the cloud. If you touch me, that evidence is enough to send you to prison for life."
