Chapter 37 As If Returning to Childhood
"Mom, Luna has blocked all three of us! How could she be so ungrateful?"
"She's just an orphan with no parents, and that unfinished house of hers isn't worth anything. Isn't lucky for her that our Ethan is willing to accept her?"
“I won't let this go! I need to get back at her!"
The more Ella thought about it, the angrier she got. Her son was really something—great job, good-looking, and tall to boot.
‘Why would Luna reject him?’Ella thought.
"No sweat; I'll call your two brothers! I can't believe that I can't handle her!" Alice was also furious for I she called all the shots in this household!
"But what do we do if she's hiding from us now? Maybe we should contact one of those mediation shows and get the media involved? Let's see how she hides then!"
Ella's suggestion made Alice hesitate.
"Wouldn't that everyone knows our domestic affairs? It's too embarrassing!"
"Mom, even if she doesn't marry Ethan, I can't have supported her and Eric for four years for nothing! I need to get some money out of her!“
"I bet that Luna has at least ten thousand dollars. Sheused to work so hard at her part-time jobs and she only slept three or four hours a day. The chocolates she bought for Eric were imported, costing two dollars each.”
“If we don't get that money, it'll just go to some random guy she's seeing! Ten thousand dollars is enough for Ethan's engagement. If it's not enough, you can chip in a bit more."
Ella was planning her son's wedding but she was dragging other unrelated people, unwilling to spend a penny of her own savings.
Alice gave her a look, "You're always eyeing my money! That's my retirement fund."
"Mom, who will count on for your retirement? It's gonna be me, right My sister was divorced and had a son to take care of. She changed boyfriends six times a year butthey all left her when they found out about her son."
"One of my brothers is always abroad, and we hardly see him all year. The other drives a cab, and his wife does odd jobs after being laid off. Rely on them? They'd let you starve!"
"Our family is different. I have a pension after retirement, and your son-in-law is a high school teacher who will retire in a few years with a pension of two to three thousand dollars. Ethan made thousands of dollars a month in his company!"
"If you're not staying with us, then where will you stay? Don't fret, Mom. Once you move in with us, you'll be eating what we eat! In fact, you'll eat even better!!"
Ella's words made Alice smile.
Alice had always been the type to flatter the powerful and step on the weak.
She bullied her younger son's wife because he didn't make much money.
Her second son, well paid, Alice interfered in his marriage and even pushed him to get a mistress to born a grandson.
"Alright, Just do your way. You can try to contact the meditation program, but I'd rather not show my face if I don't have to."
Alice still didn't want her old neighbors to laugh at her.
Last night, Charles left Mountain Vista Gardens and returned to Pine Valley Villas.
After breakfast, he was about to head to the office when he got Max's call, asking how the telescope was working out.
Charles couldn't help but think of Eric's thin, lonely figure on the balcony.
And Luna's stubborn, resolute eyes, along with the powerful aura she had when she sent him five hundred dollars.
Anyone who didn't know would think she had sent him five million dollars!
Maybe he had been a bit too harsh last night.
But was Luna completely blameless?
"Housekeeper."
Charles called the housekeeper who was experienced forsome advice.
Charles briefly explained last night's conflict to the housekeeper.
The housekeeper smiled and said, "Mr. Lee, in our time, not many people understood romance. Most marriages were just about getting by. Being together was a blessing to many people."
"That's not entirely true. Your situation is unique, but the other party is also experiencing this for the first time. From what you said, she's a young girl who just graduated a year ago and has never been in a relationship."
" She might struggle to accept her new status immediately, especially with a sick brother and a bunch of quirky relatives. If given the option, she likely wouldn't want to live like this either."
