Chapter 60 You Didn't Really Misunderstand, Did You?
Luna didn't think there was anything wrong with a woman answering Charles's phone!
However, the woman's attitude seemed a bit deliberate.
If she really didn't want Luna to misunderstand, she wouldn't use that tone and attitude.
"Why aren't you saying anything? You didn't really misunderstand, did you?"
A cautious and probing voice came from the other end of the line.
Luna laughed and said, "I just needed to reach out to Charles. Make sure you've got the right end of the stick. Okay, I'll catch up with him later.."
Just as Luna was about to hang up, the other end muttered softly, "Don't worry. I'll explain everything to Charles myself."
The call ended, and Luna was still confused.
But she didn't care much.
On the other end, Anna was very concerned.
After putting down the phone, she waited for Ashley to come in and immediately looked at Ashley with a wronged expression.
"Auntie Ashley, this phone rang just now. I mistook the phone for mine due to the similarity and took the call. It dawned on me post-answer that it was an error. The caller seemed displeased—maybe due to the mix-up. Should I consider a face-to-face chat for clarification? I'm open to apologizing if needed."
Anna's words left Ashley momentarily stunned. After realizing what had happened, she waved her hand and said it wasn't necessary.
"This is Charles's phone. I'll have someone send it to his office."
"Auntie Ashley , I happen to be going downtown. Why don't I take it to Charles?"
Anna, perpetually vexed, found herself in a perpetual dance of near misses with Charles - he always exited moments before her entrance.
In fact, she didn't initially know the phone belonged to Charles. She only realized it when she saw the caller ID named Ms. Brown.
Earlier, when Ashley mentioned that she would have dinner with that woman at the end of the month, Anna felt a strong sense of crisis.
She had to find a way to go with Ashley, so she could make a good impression in front of Charles. By comparing the two, it would be clear who was better.
"Anna, you don't need to trouble yourself. Just stay here and chat with me."
Ashley politely declined Anna.
Actually, she also wanted to create opportunities for her son and Anna.
But that was before Charles and Luna registered their marriage.
Now, Charles was a married man. They would most likely divorce in a month, but during this time, it wasn't appropriate for Anna to get involved.
Rejected by Ashley, Anna put on a facade of obedience, but inside she was as anxious as an ant on a hot griddle.
What if Ms. Brown played tricks?
She hadn't even reaped many benefits from this good man yet,so she couldn't let someone else snatch him away!
After hanging up , Luna didn't think much about it except that the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
Eric wanted to explore the neighborhood. Since Luna had nothing else to do, she pushed him along.
The siblings bought fried chicken and drinks.
After eating and drinking their fill, they bought some bottles for painting. Eric liked to paint on bottles, jars, and storage boxes, and Luna would give his finished works to friends.
After strolling through the night market, Eric was so tired that he was almost asleep. By the time Luna pushed him downstairs, it was already past ten.
Luna told Eric to wait downstairs while she took the wheelchair up first.
Everything seemed normal as Luna passed the first and second floors, but as she neared the third floor, she sensed a strange tension in the air.
Relying on her police instincts, Luna used the wheelchair as a shield and cautiously climbed the stairs.
The third-floor sensor light was out, and the neighbors hadn't renovated; only their household resided there.
As Luna stepped onto the last stair, a dark figure suddenly lunged at her.
