Chapter 54 I Can't Let Him Off Easy
Luna held back the about-to-explode Summer, signaling her to calm down.
She turned to look at Wendy.
"Let's reach out to Emily. Give Bobby a call and ask him to return. If apologies are needed, isn't it best to offer them face to face??"
As soon as Luna said this, a look of satisfaction appeared on Wendy's face.
"Emily, even your friends are more sensible than you!" Wendy said, handing the child to Emily through David.
"You, stirring up trouble all afternoon without a care for your child, just leaving him on the couch. What sort of unfeeling mother are you??"
While Wendy was speaking, Emily remained in a daze.
It wasn't until the child was in her arms that her tears began to flow uncontrollably.
Luna and Summer knew she had been deeply wronged. They pulled her into a room and closed the door, waiting for her to finish crying before speaking.
"Emily, why did he hit you?" Luna asked softly.
Emily sat on the bed holding the child, her eyes red.
"Prior to our marriage, I had some savings tucked away. He proposed that we deposit it into his friend's bank for a better interest rate. Initially hesitant, he persistently reassured me of its reliability.."
"While I was newly pregnant and battling intense morning sickness, his frequent mentions of the matter became too much to bear. Eventually, I relented. He even handed me a bank card, claiming all our funds were safely stored within.."
"Today, I went to check the interest with the baby, but the bank told me the card had been reported lost long ago, with not a single cent in it."
"That was all my savings! A total of ten thousand dollars! When I inquired about the funds, he claimed it had all been sunk into the house! Yet, with no mortgage or car loan in sight (as I had already purchased the car outright before our marriage), the need for that $10,000 expenditure seemed unfounded.!"
"When he wouldn't explain, I said I would call the police. After hearing that, he outright denied it, saying the ten thousand dollars was his, saved before we got married, and had nothing to do with me."
”Amidst our quarrel, he... he struck me. It wasn't a matter of neglecting our child; rather, the brutality of the assault left me incapacitated. I found myself restrained, gasping for breath as he held me down by the neck, each second feeling like an eternity before air could fill my lungs once more.“
”I was beaten, and I wanted to fight back. When David saw me get up to go after Bobby, he kicked me hard from the side, and I couldn't get up after that."
Emily's voice was very low, and she began to cry silently after speaking.
The memory of that scene still terrified her.
She felt like Bobby was going to strangle her to death.
Luna made some formula for Tommy. The little guy, exhausted from crying, fell asleep after drinking it, though tears still clung to the corners of his eyes.
Emily's words made Luna and Summer tremble with anger.
"Ten thousand dollars is no small amount. Could he be gambling or spending it on another woman?" Luna asked tentatively.
Emily shook her head.
"I'm clueless. Since the baby arrived, I haven't experienced a solid night's rest. Daily exhaustion masks my awareness of his nightly return.."
Emily admitted that she hadn't been paying attention to Bobby for the past year, mainly because she didn't have the energy or time.
She had hoped for Bobby's self-awareness, but now it seemed she had overestimated him
"Emily, think it through. If Bobby hit you once, there will be a second time! What are you planning to do?" Summer bluntly pointed out.
After speaking, she looked at Luna.
She and Luna were likely thinking the same thing.
If Emily chose to forgive Bobby, they would leave now.
They wouldn't meddle in this matter anymore.
After all, if the person involved chose to forgive, why should they stay upset?
Emily, her eyes swollen from crying, wiped away her tears.
"You all warned me about his smooth words and unsuitability before I tied the knot! I disregarded your counsel, even conceiving before marriage, eliminating any room for regret..“
Today, I called you because I want you to witness this! I don't want to live with him anymore! I want a divorce! But I won't let him get away with it!"
