Chapter 92 Never Want to See Luna Again in This Lifetime
Charles knew Luna was dealing with a lot, so he figured he should give her a call to check in.
But really, he just needed some emotional support from Eric.
Eric got it right away and said, "Charles, my sister's not the type to hold grudges. Just call her."
Feeling a bit better, Charles nodded and dialed her number.
To his surprise, the call got disconnected after a few rings.
Charles went silent.
"She hung up on me? And you say she's not petty?" he asked Eric.
Eric felt embarrassed but still tried to defend Luna. "Maybe she's busy. If you don't believe me, use my phone. She probably won't answer that either."
Reluctantly, Eric handed over his phone and dialed Luna's number.
Shockingly, Luna picked up after just two rings.
Eric couldn't even look at Charles.
Charles's face was a mix of cold sarcasm and anger.
Eric felt utterly embarrassed.
"Eric? What's up? Are you okay?" Luna asked on the other end.
Taking advantage of Charles's distraction, Eric tossed the phone to him. "Charles, you talk. I need to use the bathroom."
Eric made a lame excuse and bolted.
Charles picked up the phone, his expression dark. He still wanted to give Luna a chance to explain. After all, she was going through a tough time.
"This is Charles. Eric's fine. I'm at home," he said coldly, waiting for Luna to explain.
"As long as Eric's okay, we'll talk later," Luna replied and hung up.
She didn't even bother to explain or say hello.
Listening to the beeping sound, Charles was fuming.
He called, she didn't answer. Eric called, she picked up. She heard his voice and just hung up after one sentence. Shouldn't she explain?
Eric, hiding by the bathroom door, couldn't find any more excuses for Luna.
Charles's expression said it all: he never wanted to see Luna again.
Around ten at night, Luna came home, exhausted.
After greeting Eric, she knew Charles was in his room and didn't disturb him. She made dinner and then called him.
"Charles, Eric said you didn't have dinner. Come out and eat," she knocked on the door, but there was no response.
Thinking about their previous fight, she guessed he was still mad about her throwing the agreement in his face.
"Charles, thanks for taking care of Eric today," she said, realizing she had nothing else to say. She turned to eat, starving after skipping lunch.
Suddenly, the door behind her opened.
Charles, frowning, asked, "That's it?" He looked like a drama lead in his white shirt and dark pants.
Was she just thanking him for taking care of Eric and nothing else? Where was her explanation?
Luna asked, "What else?"
Charles let out a sarcastic laugh and closed the door again.
Luna was confused and still lost in thought when Charles, already holding his coat, walked out and started putting on his shoes.
"Charles, wait a moment. I have a few words to say," Luna called out. Even he didn't realize that when she called him, a flicker of hope flashed in his eyes and the corners of his mouth slightly curved up.
Luna walked up to him, her clear eyes meeting his.
Her expression was composed and sincere, her eyes pure and straightforward.
At that moment, Charles realized he had been too harsh. He shouldn't have brought Max in as a witness. Whatever the issue, he and Luna should discuss it themselves.
As the butler said, Luna was also experiencing this for the first time. It was normal for her to struggle with the identity shift, especially with a sick brother and a bunch of odd relatives.
If she had a choice, she wouldn't want to live this kind of life either.
