Chapter 52 A Heart Full of Devotion
Luna had just gotten into the car and fastened her seatbelt when she was confused by Summer's question.
"Her? Evelyn? What's up with her?"
Luna looked puzzled at Evelyn, who was already meeting with her family.
She recounted what had happened earlier to Summer, who was already driving and explained slowly.
"She's famous in Bright City's high society for her infatuation! She's had a crush on Bright City's richest man, Charlie. Since high school, she has been following him everywhere."
"Charlie studied abroad in both high school and college, and she followed him there, sending gifts, bringing him lunch, and even confessing her love. She almost got down on her knees for him, but Charlie just doesn't like her."
"I also went abroad for a year later on, and I happened to be at their school. I heard she once slit her wrists, jumped into a river, and even took sleeping pills for Charlie."
"Oh, I saw that whole train wreck! She totally threw herself in the river, sobbing and screaming for Charlie to come rescue her. Of course, he totally ignored her. We had to pretend to reason with her and then yanked her out when she wasn't looking. What a mess!."
"I don't know if she did it to scare Charlie or if she really couldn't live without him! She left a deep impression on me."
Summer's words left Luna feeling emotional.
"Hold on...did she say the Neleson family? As in, the Nelesons? The ones who own the bank?"Luna asked.
Luna recalled Summer gossiping about Bright City's four major families: the Lees at the top, followed by the Nelesons...
"Yep, those Nelesons. And let me tell you, Evelyn's not exactly Miss Popular over there. They're all about the boys, see? Girls are basically just pawns in their marriage game.."
"so I guess Evelyn is so aggressive just because she wants to marry someone she likes and escape her fate as a doormat."
"And don't forget, the Lees have got the Nelsons beat, power-wise. If Evelyn snags Charlie, the Nelsons wouldn't dare say boo. They'd be no match!"
Summer's convoluted explanation gave Luna a headache.
Anyway, those four major families were far removed from her life, and she usually let such gossip go in one ear and out the other.
"You helped Evelyn this time. The Neleson family will definitely thank you."
Summer didn't expect Luna to have any interaction with Evelyn.
"Nope, You know we can't just accept thanks like that. We have rules, you know how it is.."
Luna waved her hand. She had only lent a hand, and it was her duty to do that.
At that moment, Luna's phone rang. It was Warren calling.
"Luna, sis said Emily was domestically abused? Be super careful going over there, okay? I'll be there ASAP to back you up.."
Warren was worried and didn't want Luna and the others to suffer.
"Don't worry, I'm a cop, and your sister is a Taekwondo expert! We won't be at a disadvantage."
Luna said a few words and hung up .
Summer muttered to herself," That ungrateful brat! He only called Luna and didn't care about her!“
”She would give him a good scolding when she got back!“
Summer drove quickly but within the speed limit. When they arrived at Emily's apartment, they heard a voice full of complaints even before entering.
"Today's incident isn't Bobby's fault! You brought it on yourself! You put your face in front of him,so who else would he hit?"
"He likes a drink, he smokes a bit, so what? It's called business! And let's not forget, if my son wasn't supporting you, you'd be out on the streets with that pitiful salary of yours!"
"His money is your money! How can you be so calculative with your own husband?"
The voice was Wendy Hill.
Luna and Summer's faces changed simultaneously. They pushed the door open.
The door was unlocked, and the room was a mess.
