Chapter 17 Mind Your Identity
Molly Gold (Molly): [Luna, you were awesome! Finally, someone in our family dared to stand up to Ella! She loves to flaunt in the group, boasting about her contributions to you, insisting she never takes your money except for the occasional couple of hundred bucks. So, she doesn't see it as exploiting you.]
[I knew she was lying! Someone as money-hungry as her would never not take money! Now that you’ve posted the transfer screenshots, let’s see how she explains herself!]
Molly’s words made Luna laugh and cry at the same time.
Posting those transfer records must have made Ella furious.
But since Luna had moved out, she wasn’t going back! Apologizing was out of the question!
Just then, her phone rang. Seeing it was Joah calling, Luna’s expression tightened.
Luna initially thought that Joah had found out about her accidentally getting a marriage license.
But when she answered, Joah was calling to assign her a new task.
"Luna, come back to the team for a meeting immediately. There’s a new mission for you."
"Joah, my secondment period is over."
Luna wanted to return to regular work soon because Eric needed someone to take care of him.
Although she was staying at Charles’s place, it was only for a month. Given the current situation, it was uncertain if she and Charles could even get along for that month.
"Luna, I’ve already applied for an extension for you, and it’s been approved by the higher-ups. You’re okay with that, right?"
Luna said, "I..."
"Luna, last time I called you because we had no unfamiliar faces left in the team. It was a risk to ask you because you’re too beautiful and easily memorable."
"You’re not suited for surveillance. But this time it’s a high-end banquet, and you’re the only one in the team who can pull it off! I mean, even if I put on a suit and tie, I’d just look like a bodyguard! I wouldn’t fit in with the high society crowd at the banquet!"
"Joah, I..."
Luna tried to explain she had to look after Eric, but Joah hung up, busy with other things.
Luna rubbed her forehead. The first time she did surveillance, she mistook someone and ended up with a marriage license. Who knew what would happen at the banquet this time!
But since it was an assignment from her superior, she would do her best.
Even if she was temporarily seconded from the STF, she couldn’t disgrace the police academy!
Luna quickly packed her luggage and pushed Eric downstairs.
While on the way, she called Charles, who promptly hung up.
Luna guessed he was either driving or in a meeting, so she didn’t bother him further and pushed Eric’s wheelchair to the cafe.
Inside, there was a woman in her fifties. Her attire was simple and elegant, giving off a comfortable vibe, but the fabric was of high quality. She just seemed a bit aloof.
"Sandra, hello. I’m Luna, and this is my brother Eric. Charles said I could leave Eric here for you to look after while I’m at work."
Luna politely explained to Sandra whose expression remained indifferent as she gestured for Luna to push Eric to the corner.
"I got it. You can go now."
Sandra, an old servant of the Lee family, was originally tasked by Charles to monitor Anna and now oversaw Luna.
"Thank you, Sandra. Here are some notes about Eric. I’ll leave them here."
Luna always carried printed care instructions for Eric. Sandra’s expression remained unchanged. After Luna left, Sandra poured Eric a glass of water and then went back to her drawing.
Eric suddenly made a strange noise, then Sandra frowned as she looked at him.
