Chapter 136 Oh God, Why Don't You Just Take Me Away?
Alice knew that even though Lisa was poor and depended on her, blaming her would make Lisa furious.
Especially with Lisa's troublesome son, who was a handful.
So, Alice decided to focus on her own two sons.
She called Macus, hoping he'd help, but he was on a business trip and didn't want to get involved.
Macus also preferred avoiding trouble and didn't want to get mixed up in this.
Alice didn't want to upset Macus either since he gave her a lot of money every year.
Finally, she called her third son, Luke Brown.
Luke already knew about the situation, but Alice kept insisting it was a misunderstanding. She claimed she thought Eric's wheelchair had accidentally run over her foot and didn't mean to blame him.
Regarding Ella, Alice acted all fair and just in front of Luke, constantly criticizing Ella and promising to apologize to Luna personally.
Seeing Alice like this, Luke believed it was all a misunderstanding, thinking Ella and Lisa caused the trouble, and Alice had to clean up their mess.
"Mom, what's up? I just dropped off my last passenger and am heading back now."
Luke drove a taxi. Business had been tough, but with only one daughter to support, it wasn't too hard to provide for his family of three.
"Luke, I'm not feeling well. I've been lying down all day. The more I think about what happened with Luna, the more upset I get. How am I supposed to live like this?"
"Macus is on a business trip and can't come back, and Ella is involved too. Now it's just you by my side! You're the pillar of our family now. I'm only counting on you."
Alice's tearful words made Luke anxious, and he couldn't help but straighten up.
Luke was straightforward, quick to react, and easy to provoke. In the past, Luna's father, Logan Brown, had always supported and looked after him, keeping his temper in check.
Now, without Logan's guidance, Alice's few words had him fired up.
He thought Alice really valued him, so he parked his car and went to Ella's house.
Luke even brought his wife along, buying a bunch of fruits and ready-to-eat food on the way.
Luna's aunt, Cassandra Gray, didn't say much. After all, Luke was being filial to his mother, so he could buy whatever he wanted.
She didn't want to come, but Luke insisted his mom was sick, and it wouldn't look good if her daughter-in-law didn't show up.
Cassandra didn't want to argue with Luke over this.
She thought she'd just drop off the things, say a few words, and leave. Alice never treated her as family and had tricked her many times before, so she was very wary of Alice, always speaking cautiously to avoid giving her any leverage.
When they arrived at Ella's house, Luke put the things on the floor. Ella stared at the fruits and deli meats for a long time.
Ella pretended to warmly invite Luke to sit and offered to wash some fruit for him, but only washed two wrinkled peaches that had clearly been sitting around for days.
She kept urging Cassandra to eat.
Cassandra declined several times but eventually had to take one, holding it without any desire to eat.
"Mom, are you feeling any better? If not, I can drive you to the hospital." Luke asked witn concern.
Luke had a fiery temper but was simple and filial. Seeing Alice looking unwell, he was very worried.
"Luke, I really can't go on... I'm so wronged! Oh God, why don't you just take me, so I don't have to suffer so much! No matter what I say, no one believes me... What's the point of living?"
As soon as Luke came back, Alice started her act, crying and slapping her thigh.
