Chapter 78 I Can't Live Anymore

Luna had been swamped all week. By Friday night, she was practically shoving Eric out the door to go shopping.

Charles' parents were coming over for dinner the next day, so she needed to get the ingredients ready.

Charles remained trapped at the office. He assured her that he would collect her post-work and instructed her to utilize his card. Without hesitation, Luna seized the card and departed with Eric.

Upon arriving at the mall, Eric became enamored with a novel cultural and artistic boutique on the ground level. Witnessing his enthusiasm, Luna suggested he linger there as she attended to the supermarket.

Subsequent to Luna's departure, Eric became so engrossed that he failed to perceive the arrival of Ella and Alice behind him.

Spotting him from a distance, a nasty plan started brewing in Ella and Alice's minds.

"Eric! Where's your sister? Why are you here alone? Do you know how hard it was to find you? How long are you two going to hide from us?"

"I took care of you and your sister for four years! And you just took off without a word! Your sister's barely in her twenties and already shacking up with some guy! How am I supposed to face my dead brother?"

The sudden outburst startled Eric.

He turned around to see Ella and Alice each holding onto a handle of his wheelchair, with Ella pointing at him and crying.

Alice clutched her chest, looking like she might collapse any second.

Eric was scared and instinctively tried to wheel himself away.

But before the wheelchair could even touch Alice's foot, she plopped down on the ground.

"Are you trying to run me over, Eric? I'm your grandmother! How could you turn out as bad as your sister!"

"I didn't take a dime of the money when your folks passed. I handed it all over to you! And this is how you thank me? It ain't right!"

Alice, a pro at playing the victim, performed her act of lying on the ground with great skill.

Eric clenched his fists, sweat beading on his forehead, his face pale as paper, and his breathing becoming rapid.

How could he stand up to Ella and Alice?

Hearing the commotion, people started to gather, some even taking out their phones to record.

Seeing people filming, Ella put on an even more dramatic show.

"You be the judge! Five years back, their folks passed, and I took on these two, had them crash at mine, fed and looked after them. I figured, they're my bro's kids, can't see 'em struggle!"

"And what did they do? His sis hooked up with some rando and bolted! Before scramming, she even snagged a bunch of grub and gear from my place.”

“I didn't hold it against them! I just wished they'd swing by to check on Alice when she fell ill, but they wouldn't budge! Not only did they lash out at me and Alice, but they also cut us off! They're heartless.!"

As Ella berated Eric, she signaled to Alice to put on an even better show.

They didn't care that Eric was already struggling to breathe, his face as white as a sheet.

Alice was still sitting on the ground, one hand gripping the wheelchair handle tightly, wailing loudly but without tears.

"Oh, my poor son! Can you believe what your own kids have pulled off? I'm at death's door, and not a single visit from them, they've even blocked me! She had the gall to curse me over the phone, wishing for my swift demise! What have I done to deserve such treatment?"

"I raised you through thick and thin, only to witness you depart ahead of me, forcing me to lay my own offspring to rest. I didn't touch a cent of the settlement and handed it all over to them, yet your daughter squandered it on a stranger and won't even pay me a visit!"

"I failed you. I didn't raise your children well! I don't want to live anymore!"
