Chapter 76 People Are Deceptive

"I'll go take a call."

Charles stood up and walked out of the room, leaving behind the laughter of Luna and Eric.

As he turned his back to them, he couldn't help but smile.

 Luna, sometimes was quite adorable.

Charles composed himself and answered Ashley's call.

"Charles, are you having dinner with Luna at the HarmonyHaven Hotel right now?"Ashley's voice had a probing tone.

"Yes, I brought Luna and her brother here for the buffet."

Charles didn't deny it, as he hadn't hidden it from his family.

Hearing Charles' words, Ashley found the situation increasingly unbelievable.

She even suspected that Charles might be getting addicted to acting.

But Charles had always been someone who wouldn't wrong himself!

His union with Anna was reluctantly forged due to her ailing health; otherwise, he consistently charted his own course in all other aspects.

This time, his attitude towards Luna and Eric was noticeably different.

It seemed he was determined not to remarry!

She had also asked the lobby manager and she knew that Charles, Luna, and Eric had a harmonious meal. Charles even patiently teached them how to eat king crab.

From what she could see, Luna didn't seem like a woman who was after wealth.

"Charles, you better keep an eye on those siblings. If you truly hit it off, I won't meddle. I'll simply adopt Anna as my goddaughter."

Ashley had taken a step back.

But the premise was that she had to personally approve of Luna.

"Got it."

Charles responded and chatted with Ashley for a few more minutes before returning to the private room.

After the three of them had their fill, Eric fell asleep on the way back.

Luna was about to take off her coat to cover him when Charles had already draped his suit jacket over Eric.

"Thank you."Luna said.

Charles glanced at her, "I'm helping Eric, not you. You don't need to thank me."

Normally, Luna would have retorted, but today, since he treated them to dinner and drove them, she let it slide.

"It takes an hour to drive back. Should we listen to some music to stay awake?"

Luna thought it would be awkward to sit in silence for over an hour.

Charles didn't object, so Luna played a pop song on her phone.

Charles usually didn't listen to pop music and noticed that her playlist was full of songs by the same singer.

"Are you a fan of that singer?" Charles asked.

"Not really. Eric likes this singer and recommended him to me. I found the music quite good."

"So, what other hobbies do you have?" Charles asked casually, not feeling like he was actively trying to get to know Luna.

Luna thought for a while and shook her head.

"In the presence of my parents, I enjoyed fishing with my father and assisting my mother with crafts. These activities were not mere hobbies; rather, they reflected the ingrained customs of our togetherness."

Luna fondly remembered the days when the whole family was together.

But those days were gone forever.

"I don't quite understand how you could endure living with your aunt's family for four years."

Charles asked the question he had been wanting to ask.

Luna had been so decisive with Emily's issue, stating that if Emily forgave her husband, she would no longer intervene. Why was she so passive with her relatives?

Luna glanced back at Eric, who was still asleep, and then began to explain.

"Following the passing of my parents, Alice had the opportunity to claim a share of the funeral costs and compensation, yet she declined any remuneration. I was deeply appreciative of her gesture..”

“At that time, I was still a minor. Ella's repeatedly  requested us to stay at her house and Alise agreed, saying it would be easier for her to visit us. So I agreed."
