Chapter 89 Humiliated

Around nine, Emily showed up downstairs, pushing a stroller.

A few elderly ladies were sitting at the entrance, chatting away. When they saw her, they suddenly went quiet.

They looked at her in a bit odd way. Some seemed curious and sympathetic, others were smug, and a few were just there for the drama.

Emily wasn't as outgoing as Luna or as bright and generous as Summer. She had few interactions with her neighbors, usually just a nod in passing, but none with these chatty old ladies sitting in the hallway or at the entrance.

Emily felt they knew more about other people's business than the people involved.

As she pushed the stroller inside, the elderly ladies huddled together again, whispering like old-time spies.

"What a poor young lady! Just wait. She won't even get in! Her in-laws are tough! She can't win against them!"

"She seems cold, but she's nice. She helped me when my stroller tipped over and didn't mind the mud at all."

"It's just fate! Stuck with such in-laws, she has to bear it! And now with a kid, it's even harder to leave!"

"Her father-in-law was a slacker at the factory! Her mother-in-law is even worse. She almost got caught naked with her boss by his wife, all for this house!"

Emily didn't hear these comments. She lived on the first floor. After carrying the stroller up a few steps, she took out her key to open the door, only to find the key didn't work.

There were some clothes scattered on the ground, all hers.

Recalling the looks of the elderly ladies, Emily understood what was happening.

They had changed the lock and thrown out her clothes while she was out with the baby. They were trying to force her to submit.

Emily didn't make a scene at the door. She glanced at Tommy sleeping in the stroller, a bitter smile on her face.

It wasn't too late to see the true colors of this family.

She pushed the stroller away from the door and went around to the back window.

Looking through the back window, she saw dim lights inside, indicating that Bobby and his parents were still awake.

Emily pushed the stroller back a bit, picked up a brick from the ground, and smashed it through the window.

The piercing crack echoed through the entire neighborhood.

It startled Bobby's parents inside.

Especially Wendy, who sat up with a scream, clutched her heart, took a long time to shake off her shock and return to her senses.

Emily immediately picked up a second brick and smashed it through another window.

She smashed three windows in a row before Bobby's parents reacted.

They didn't dare go to the balcony so they peeked out from the living room.

Seeing Emily holding a brick and grinning at them scared them half to death.

Wendy was so frightened that she fell to the ground.

Since giving birth, Emily had stopped wearing makeup, put on sloppy pajamas, and quitted getting her hair done. Due to postpartum depression and hair loss, she often tied her hair in a low ponytail. Her body was bloated, her face haggard. Under the dim moonlight, she looked eerily unsettling.

Emily's actions attracted many on-looking neighbors.

Emily shouted at that family in the living room.

"You changed the lock while I was out with the baby! Only your family would do such a thing! When Bobby abused me, you did nothing as his parents! You even ganged up on me! He almost choked me to death. But one of you kicked me, and the other just walked away!"

"Now you want to lock me out? Let me tell you, I'm a pushover! Either you open the door right now, or I'll smash all your windows! I paid for most of the house renovation! It's like smashing my own money!"

As soon as Emily spoke, the Hill family's most prized reputation was ruined in this old neighborhood.
