Chapter 175 You Cannot Make an Omelette Without Breaking Eggs
Wendy stepped out to make a call, and Emily quietly followed. She overheard Wendy saying Luna wouldn't arrive until seven or eight.
On the other end, Alice was annoyed. She said they were already at the corner, waiting to block Luna as soon as she entered the neighborhood. Now they had to wait in the cold wind for over two hours.
Wendy tried to comfort her, saying good things take time. Alice reluctantly hung up.
Emily sneered at this.
When Wendy returned, Emily pretended she couldn't reach Luna. Wendy smiled bitterly and had to keep up the act and wait.
At eight, Wendy, with a forced smile, asked her to call Luna. Emily pretended to call several times but looked helpless.
"Luna's phone isn't reachable. She might still be tied up with her mission. Maybe we should just forget about it."
"No way, I can wait. Give me Luna's number, and I'll call her myself," Wendy insisted.
"Wendy, Luna is on a mission right now. If I can't reach her, neither can you! Let's not disturb her."
Emily went back inside to soothe Tommy. Wendy was fuming but couldn't show it.
At eight-thirty, Emily came out with her phone. Wendy immediately approached her with anticipation.
"How is it? Is she almost here?"
"Luna said her mission isn't finished yet. She might not be here until eleven. I think we should call it a day. You must be hungry; let's eat."
Wendy's face turned dark. How could they call it a day? Absolutely not!
Emily could see Wendy was on the verge of losing it. But with Luna not coming, Wendy had to hold it in.
Emily chuckled lightly. "Then please keep waiting. I'm going to take a nap; I'm tired."
Emily slowly put Tommy to sleep and then took a nap herself.
By the roadside, Alice was freezing. Ella was stomping her feet to keep warm. They didn't dare leave because this was the only entrance Luna could get into the neighborhood.
"Wendy really messed this up! She said five or six o'clock, but now it's past nine, and there's no sign of Luna! Mom, did you give her any money?" Ella asked.
Alice, coughing from the cold, wiped her nose on a tree trunk and rubbed her hands on her clothes before speaking.
"I gave her two boxes of sea cucumbers before. Macus gave them as Christmas gifts, and each box costs three hundred dollars! But I haven't given her any money for tonight's dinner. I haven't even seen Luna, so why should I pay?"
Alice regretted those two boxes of sea cucumbers. But as the saying goes, you cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs.
At eleven, Emily woke up from her nap, yawning as she walked out of her room. Seeing Wendy still waiting eagerly, Emily pretended she had just hung up with Luna.
"Don't wait anymore. Luna has to work overnight and can't come."
Wendy jumped up from her chair, seething with anger.
"What? She's not coming? Is she messing with me? I prepared so much food! And there are people outside..."
Wendy, not very capable, tended to let things slip when excited. She almost revealed the truth.
Emily sneered. "Is there anyone out there?"
Wendy explained in a flurry, "Nothing! Nothing! Your friend is so unreliable! Making me wait until eleven to say she's not coming! It's lucky that David and Bobby aren't home tonight! They didn't have to wait with us! Give me Luna's number; I need to ask her if she has a problem with me!"
