Chapter 123 She Takes the Initiative

When Ashley got Charles' call, she was just about to head out.

"Charles, did you invite Grandpa and the uncles?" Ashley asked, surprised.

"Yeah, it's a formal dinner, so I thought inviting Grandpa, Uncle Zachary and Uncle Jackie would be respectful. But Grandpa might not make it."

Charles seemed okay with it, but Ashley was stunned. She never thought Charles would take Luna so seriously. The change in Luna's circumstances also caught her off guard.

What puzzled her now was why Anna would say those things about Luna. And the carpooling incident—Ashley had seen the video and heard the audio. She didn't expect Anna to be that kind of person. But remembering that Anna had saved her once, Ashley still felt compelled to give Anna a chance to explain herself. So she didn't tell Charles that the blogger 'AnnaIsNotAGoddess' was Anna.

"I'm going to pick up Eric and Luna now. See you tonight."

Charles hung up, but Ashley was still lost in thought. She sensed that her son truly had feelings for Luna and wanted to be with Luna.

Just then, Anna Greene called.

"Auntie," Anna's voice sounded tired and hoarse.

"Anna, what's up?" Ashley wasn't in a rush to confront her, waiting for her to speak.

"Auntie, I didn't tell you the whole truth before. I exaggerated the carpooling incident, that was my fault. But I swear, I really didn't post on Facebook, and the replies weren't from me either."

"It was a jealous friend who hacked my account to post those things. I wanted to report it to the police, but that friend begged me not to, saying it would ruin her future."

"I couldn't bear it, so I took the blame. Many posts on that account weren't from me. That friend, out of vanity, used many of my photos. I didn't even know about that account."

“She deceived everyone, including me. Auntie, do you believe me?"

Anna finished and started crying on the other end of the phone, sounding pitiful.

"Anna, the carpooling incident was your fault, but if you didn't post those things, I still suggest you report it to the police. The police investigation results are the most credible."

This time, Ashley didn't immediately believe Anna.

"Auntie, during the carpooling, I was blinded by jealousy because I saw that middle-aged man flirting with Luna when they got in the car. I thought  if I let them sit together, maybe they'd hit it off."

"Who would have thought... But now, no matter what I say, no one will believe me. But I know, Auntie, you will have my back, right?"

Anna avoided the topic of reporting to the police.

Anna wanted to keep playing the victim, but Vincent Lee urged Ashley to leave.

"It's time. We need to go to HarmonyHaven Hotel." Vincent's voice was deep.

As soon as she heard 'HarmonyHaven Hotel,' Anna perked up.

"Auntie, are you going out? Is Charles going too?" Anna asked casually.

Ashley responded with a hum, "It's a family gathering, we won't invite you this time. You should rest well at home."

"Thank you, Auntie. I'll be good. I'll call you tomorrow."

Anna hung up, changed her clothes, and went out. She had a hunch that Ashley was going to meet the girl Charles mistakenly got a marriage license with, the one called Ms. Brown. She would take this chance to meet that girl!

Her days weren't going well, and she couldn't wait any longer. She had to take the initiative!
