Chapter 172 Don't Do Anything Drastic
Anna noticed Ashley wasn't as warm as before, and it made her anxious.
The ride-hailing incident had definitely put a wedge between them.
'I need to fix this ASAP,' Anna thought.
She knew Ashley had a soft spot for people who seemed helpless. The more helpless and pitiful she acted, the more she could tug at Ashley's heartstrings.
"Auntie Ashley, after this visit, we might not see each other for a while," Anna said, looking serious.
Ashley was surprised. "Anna, don't do anything drastic."
"Auntie Ashley, what are you thinking? I haven't found that driver and passenger to apologize, and people online are saying awful things about me. Even though it's not true and only you believe me, I'll keep going."
"It's tough, but I can't let my parents down. No matter how hard it gets, I won't do anything rash."
"I actually want to go to a quiet place for a few months to pray for you, Auntie Ashley. Maybe it'll help find a solution."
"So, I'm here to say goodbye for now. But I really want to see Charles before I leave. If he's too busy, it's okay. I'll just leave with that regret."
"After all, life is rarely perfect. Meeting you, Auntie Ashley, has been my greatest fortune."
Anna's eyes reddened, and she pretended to wipe away tears.
This made Ashley's heart ache.
If Anna had been crying and shouting, Ashley might think she couldn't handle losing. But her current behavior made Ashley feel pity.
Ashley knew Anna had messed up, but since she admitted her mistake and wouldn't repeat it, Ashley thought she deserved another chance.
"Anna, actually Charles and that..."
Ashley almost mentioned Luna but stopped herself. It was Charlie and Luna's business, and Charlie should tell Anna.
Since Anna was leaving, Ashley decided to let her meet Charlie.
"Anna, don't rush off. Let me check when Charles is free, and we can have a meal together. Even if you can't be a couple, you can still be my goddaughter."
Ashley patted Anna's shoulder, feeling both pity and helplessness.
'Everyone makes mistakes,' Ashley thought. 'If Anna hadn't said those things during the carpool, she wouldn't be in this mess.'
Ashley believed the Facebook post wasn't from Anna but an impersonator. However, Anna's behavior during the carpool was still an issue.
But she deserved a chance to make it right.
After some polite refusals, Anna agreed.
She seemed shy and nervous about seeing Charles, but inside, she was scheming.
She didn't want to be Ashley's goddaughter!
The Lee family's estate would go to their kids. A goddaughter would only get occasional gifts.
The houses and jewelry wouldn't be hers.
Her target was always Charles!
