Chapter 144 They Revealed Their True Colors
Emily waited until the Hill family was asleep before sneaking into the study.
Bobby was snoring, still dressed. Emily used to change him into pajamas and soak his dirty clothes for washing. Bobby never did it himself, always relying on her.
Now, she didn't bother. She quietly took his phone to the living room.
If Bobby woke up, she'd quickly stash the phone on the sofa and slip back to the room. He probably thought he'd left his phone in the living room all by himself.
She tried unlocking the phone but failed three times.
Bobby's old password was their family's birthdays, but now it was Sophia's birthday.
Emily felt down. Bobby had withdrawn $10,000 during their renovation. That money was in a new account he opened, and she deposited money into it monthly. She didn't have the transfer records for that card.
Bobby handled the car sale when Emily was pregnant, so the money went to his card.
She only had records of the $10,000 from before their marriage. A year after they married, they saved some money, and Bobby suggested paying off the house mortgage.
Emily hesitated because the house was under Bobby's parents' names, and she didn't see why she should foot their mortgage bill. However, with little Tommy just entering the scene, the Hill family convinced her, saying the house would be transferred to Bobby's name once the mortgage was paid off.
She initially refused but eventually agreed, letting Bobby use their $10,000 savings to pay off the mortgage.
The Hill family never mentioned the transfer again.
Emily saw through them now.
They took her car before marriage, tricked her out of her $10,000 savings, and used their $30,000 for renovations.
She was the one who forked out for Bobby's car, footed most of the renovation bill, and her savings, both pre and post-wedding, ended up lining their pockets.
After giving birth, her company's performance dropped. She used to earn $2,000 to $3,000 a month, but now barely made over $1,000 and often had unpaid leave.
She had no more value to them, so their true colors showed.
They cornered her, and she was determined to take back what she deserved.
Emily wanted to find the transfer records on Bobby's phone. Unable to unlock it, she thought of the fingerprint feature and quietly returned to the study.
Bobby was still snoring loudly.
Emily took his left hand and pressed it on the unlock button.
She had dimmed the phone screen beforehand.
"Baby... go to sleep..." Bobby mumbled, turned over, and seemed half-awake.
Seeing the phone unlocked, Emily's heart raced as she lay on the floor beside the bed.
She pushed the phone under the bed to hide the screen light from Bobby.
He turned over, mumbled a bit more, and started snoring again. Emily sighed in relief.
Fifteen minutes later, she had taken all the necessary screenshots and photos, deleted the records, and put Bobby's phone back.
As she walked out of the study, she bumped into Wendy, who was heading to the bathroom.
"What are you doing?" Wendy asked vigilantly.
