Chapter 79 You're Still Young. Don't Be Fooled
Alice was in tears, ready to slam her head on the ground, but the crowd quickly intervened.
Seeing everyone siding with her, she turned up the theatrics.
""Eric, you're my top pick of grandsons. How could you pull a stunt like this on me? I'd hand you my heart on a platter if I could. But all you seem to reckon is that I'm past it and useless," Alice lamented.
She lay on the ground, crying and pounding the dirt, her feet scuffing back and forth.
Next to her, Ella stoked the flames.
"Eric! You heartless boy, when Alice was sick and unconscious, she kept calling your name! She just wanted to see you and Luna!"
"Since your parents died, has Alice ever taken a penny from you? And your aunts and uncles have been taking care of you, right?"
"I've done heaps for you, and you don't even show gratitude. Instead, you swiped food and stuff from my place when you split! How could you stab me in the back like that?"
Ella's finger nearly poked Eric's face.
Eric's face was pale, sweat beading on his forehead.
"We didn't! You're falsely accusing us! Luna sends you money every month! You..."
As Eric spoke, he tried to turn his wheelchair to leave, but Alice moved to block him.
"Eric! If you want to leave, just say so. Do you think I can stop you? You see Alice here, and you still want to go! Do you want to run over Alice?"
Ella reached out to hit Eric.
Eric instinctively backed away. Though the slap missed, it scratched his cheek, leaving two nail marks.
"You're wrongly blaming Luna! Will you reveal Luna's transfer records? Will you disclose where I stayed and what I ate at your place to others?“
Eric held his head high. Even though he was alone, he wouldn't let them tarnish Luna's reputation.
"Accuse you falsely? My family is wealthy. We both have pensions, and my son makes over ten grand a month. Why would I accuse you falsely?"
Ella defended herself while boasting about her family's situation.
The onlookers whispered among themselves, pointing at Eric.
"Some folks these days have no heart! Alice never touched a cent of their father's settlement, and how do they repay her? With ingratitude, not even checking in when she's sick! It's just sad!"
"Some gals just don't respect themselves! They brush off family advice and move in with anyone in a flash! And when they get left high and dry, they come back bawling!"
"I reckon we shouldn't just buy into one narrative! This gal always brings her brother along. She doesn't strike me as ungrateful!"
Hearing someone speak up for Luna, Ella's eyes shifted, and she launched another vicious attack on Eric.
"Eric, Ella took you and your sis in 'cause she knew you were unwell and needed round-the-clock care. Ella wouldn't hurt you."
"But now you're off with Luna. What if your condition worsens? Luna's just using you for pity. She might even cook up a fundraiser to cash in on your situation!"
"You're still a kid, so don't be fooled. Come back with Ella and Alice. We're the ones who can truly look after you."
Facing Ella's shamelessness, fifteen-year-old Eric, no matter how mature, couldn't compete with their brazenness.
"I won't go back with you! Everything you say is a lie! The one who cares for me the most is Luna! You just see Luna as someone you can use!"
