Chapter 61 Don't be Ungrateful

Out of the darkness, a shadow lunged at Luna, who had seen this coming, so she swung her wheelchair fiercely in response.

From the darkness came a muffled groan as the assailant took a step back, swiftly followed by the ominous sound of a switchblade being unsheathed. In the dim moonlight, Luna caught sight of a masked, burly bald man wielding the blade towards her.

"Who are you?"Luna's voice was cold.

The man waved the switchblade, clearly not taking her seriously.

"So, you're the one living here? I didn't expect you to be a woman! Well, pass a message to your husband for me!"

"Listen attentively. Exercise caution moving forward. Refrain from ingratitude. Instruct your spouse to retract the accusations. Any harm to my sister, even a single hair, will result in repercussions for you."

Before the bald man could finish his threat, Luna swept his legs and swung the wheelchair hard at his wrist.

The switchblade fell to the ground, and Luna immediately kicked it away, then she kicked the bald man in the leg.

The bald man didn't expect Luna to be so tough. After taking a kick, he still tried to charge forward.

Luna didn't hold back either. After a few moves, the bald man realized he was no match for Luna and tried to escape, but he slipped and fell down the stairs, knocking himself out.

At this moment, a neighbor on the second floor heard the commotion and opened the door a crack, only to see a man with a bloody face lying on the ground.

Startled, she screamed and quickly shut the door again.

"Don't be afraid, I'm a cop! Stay inside and don't come out. If it's convenient, could you lend me a rope?"

Luna calmly reassured the frightened neighbor.

The female neighbor quietly agreed, and after a while, the male neighbor cautiously handed a rope through the door crack, asking, "Do you need any help?"

He saw that Luna was just a young girl, while the man was burly and looked like he weighed at least 200 pounds. He was worried Luna might be at a disadvantage.

"Not for now, thank you. I can handle it."

After calling the police, Luna tied up the man and put on her badge, waiting for her colleagues to arrive.

During this time, the couple from the second floor stayed close to their door, ready to help if needed.

The police car arrived in eight minutes. The suspect stabbed someone, involved in a criminal case.  The team from the station came. Since Luna knew them all, she briefly explained the situation, sent Eric home to rest, and then went back to the station to give her statement.

Although Eric was worried about Luna, he didn't ask much. Once he was alone at home, Eric made a call to Charles.

Charles was still working late at the office. Seeing Eric's call, he was momentarily surprised but quickly answered.

"Charles, someone just attacked my sister at our door. The attacker wants my sister to tell you to drop the charges.."

"But my sister is fine. She went back to the station with her colleagues to give her statement. If you have time, could you go pick her up?"

Eric's voice sounded calm, but if  Charles listened closely, he could hear the tremor in his tone.

In this world, his sister was his only family.

When his sister was in danger, he couldn't help, so he didn't dare ask anything earlier. By doing so, he was helping her and allowing her to focus on investigating the truth without worrying about him.

Sensing something was off in Eric's voice, Charles reassured him, "Lock the door. Only open for me and your sister. I'll pick her up and get back. I added you on Facebook. So keep the video on, and we'll keep the conversation going so that you won't be afraid."

"I know. My sister already told me."

Eric seemed to be normal at first, but suddenly let out a cry and then hung up the phone.
