Chapter 158 Relationships Need Mutual Consent
At dawn, Luna dozed off again.
Just as she was about to wake up, her phone rang. Charles offered to get it, but she refused.
"Did you not wash your hands after putting on ointment? I'll get it myself."
Half-asleep, Luna didn't think much of it, but her words annoyed Charles.
How could she think he didn't wash his hands?
He didn't even mind her dirty feet while applying the ointment!
Luna answered the phone, and Evelyn's voice came through.
"Luna, want to join me for afternoon tea? Are you free?"
"Evelyn? Sorry, I'm at the hospital..." Since their last meeting, Evelyn insisted Luna call her by her first name.
Still groggy, Luna was about to decline but ended up telling the truth.
"Which hospital? Is it serious? I'll come see you." Evelyn's voice got louder.
Luna snapped awake, realizing Evelyn wouldn't take no for an answer.
Charles, listening nearby, frowned.
'This Evelyn just won't quit!' he thought.
Luna knew Evelyn's persistence. Evelyn was adamant about visiting her, and she made it clear that if Luna didn't disclose her location, she would personally search every hospital in the city until she found her.
Luna had no choice but to give her the address. Evelyn said she'd be there in half an hour.
After hanging up, Luna muttered, "How can someone as persistent as Evelyn not win over Mr. Lee?"
Charles's face darkened.
"Relationships need mutual consent! Have you thought that someone as persistent as Evelyn could cause a ton of unnecessary trouble for Charlie?"
"She jumped off bridges, attempted suicide, and blocked roads! Did Charlie ever give her any sign or hint to do these things? As far as I know, never!"
"Evelyn thinks these stunts will make Charlie accept her! From start to finish, Charlie's the one who's been troubled."
Charles never thought he'd have to defend himself like this.
Luna didn't expect him to know so much and teased, "Do you keep up with gossip? But you're right. Evelyn needs time to sort out her feelings; it can't be rushed. Otherwise, it could really push her over the edge."
Luna believed in giving Evelyn time to come to terms with things, rather than forcing her to stop abruptly.
Charles wanted to argue that women always side with each other, but he remembered how Evelyn hadn't bothered him lately. Luna's method seemed to be working, so he stayed quiet.
Just then, Charles's phone rang. Seeing it was Mike, he got up and walked to the door.
"Mr. Lee, your breakfast is here. I'm at the end of the hallway."
"Got it. Wait there."
Charles was about to leave when Mike called again.
"Mr. Lee, I saw Evelyn. She's heading your way."
Mike sounded urgent. He had almost been spotted by Evelyn earlier and had to pretend to tie his shoelaces to avoid her.
What was Evelyn doing at the hospital so early?
'Does Evelyn know Mr. Lee is here and is trying to corner him?' Mike wondered.
Charles frowned. Didn't Evelyn say she'd be here in half an hour? It's only been fifteen minutes!
If he went out now, they'd definitely run into each other!
