Chapter 102 Kissed the Wrist
Adeline clearly didn't want to chat about it anymore. She strutted ahead in her black boots, her long hair swaying down to her waist, and her legs looking all sleek and slender.
But Charles caught something off with her right hand. He grabbed her wrist, his dark eyes narrowing. "What happened to your hand?"
Adeline shrugged it off. "Probably scratched it on a tree trying to dodge someone. No big deal. I'll just..."
Charles abruptly leaned down and touched her wrist, interrupting her. The coolness of his lips cooled the burn from her wound, and his touch, in spite of his lofty manner, was surprisingly tender.
Adeline attempted to yank her hand away, having never been this close to anyone.
But he held on tight, his deep eyes lifting slightly to meet hers.
Charles was tall with long legs, dressed in a black custom suit, and wore a crimson bracelet on his wrist, giving off a restrained vibe.
They were in a shadowy spot, so it was hard to see them.
But the darkness made everything feel more intense.
His scent was intoxicating, and his low whisper added to it, "I have to go on a business trip to Albion for a few days. I'll be back on Thursday."
Adeline felt a tingle between her fingers. She dodged his lips and frowned. "Five days is fine, but you need to be back within ten days for your meds."
Charles smiled faintly as she pushed him away. "I heard this is the best way to stop bacteria."
Adeline muttered, "If it were anyone else, I'd have punched them by now."
Charles noticed Adeline had a soft spot for good-looking people. He chuckled. "Chrysanthemum Alley has no cameras. I'll leave Patrick with you; he can be useful."
Patrick, hiding in the corner, was speechless.
Adeline glanced at the shadow nearby, her lips curling up. "That's your bodyguard. If you leave him with me, what about you?"
Charles looked into her eyes. "You don't want him?"
Adeline didn't deny it. "I'm used to being alone, free to come and go as I please. I don't like being followed."
Charles didn't fully buy it. If she was truly a loner, she wouldn't have adopted Robert.
She probably had some reservations about him.
Charles had never felt this way before, and it made his heart feel a bit heavy. But he didn't show it, just lowered his eyes, making them look even deeper. "I thought you considered me a friend."
"We are friends." Adeline couldn't stand seeing him like this. "You can give me gifts or whatever, but not people."
Charles saw she wasn't lying and said softly, "Okay." His voice was wrapped in darkness, sounding somewhat pleasant.
Adeline realized she had no resistance to people with pleasant voices.
If this had been in the past, she would have definitely taken Charles as a lover, having him coax her to sleep every day wouldn't be bad.
Unfortunately, he didn't seem like someone money could buy.
"And you don't need to find a tutor." Charles' voice was a bit hoarse. "I'll teach you. You should also practice your handwriting."
Adeline raised an eyebrow.
Charles looked at her and slowly smiled, the moonlight behind him making him look even more enchanting. "Wait for me to come back."
