Chapter 50 Someone Investigates

"Adeline! Chill out, don't be rude," Summer shot her a disapproving look.

As she finished, she clutched her phone, eyes glued to it like it was the most fascinating thing ever.

Adeline rubbed her temples, feeling totally helpless.

She'd been a doctor for years, and this was probably the worst hit to her rep. "Grandma, this is so obviously fake."

"Fake?" Summer squinted through her reading glasses, trying to get a better look.

Adeline gave her a reassuring pat. "Relax, I won't stir up any trouble."

"It's not you causing trouble that I'm worried about," Summer sighed. "It's my bad rep that might drag you down. When you get there, don't mention me. I'll have a friend's grandson tag along with you, so you can watch each other's backs. Best to steer clear of the Cooper family."

Steer clear of the Cooper family?

Then what was the point of she even going?

But Adeline kept that to herself, just smiled and nodded, "Okay."

Everything seemed normal.

Only Robert knew the Cooper family was in for it this time.

Because before hitting the sack, Adeline had said, "I'll hack into the defense system with you and report what you find."

Robert gave a nod!

The Cooper family, basking in their glory, had no clue about the storm heading their way.

"With Whispering Fern, even the Livingston family looks at us differently." Sara held the box, her face lit up with excitement.

James, sitting next to her, chimed in, "You always know how to get things done."

The whole Cooper clan was riding high.

"Now we just wait for the seminar to kick off!"

"The Cooper family is gonna shine!"

But Richard Cooper didn't look too thrilled. "What's up with Matthew's hand? Haven't you fixed it yet?"

His son Matthew had just gone out to deliver something and ended up dislocating his hand, which still wasn't set right.

This put a damper on Richard's mood.

Sara waved it off. "Richard, I checked on Matthew. It's no big deal; he'll be fine by tomorrow."

"But..." Richard started to say more.

Just then, a deep, aged voice cut through. "Richard, don't sweat the small stuff."

It was Paul Cooper, the real head honcho of the Cooper family.

He was over a hundred, slightly hunched, with a head full of white hair, but his eyes were sharp, like a snake lurking in the shadows.

"Dad!" Richard and Sara were shocked. "Why are you back? Weren't you busy in Zelphoria?"

Paul didn't bother answering, just waved his sleeve to dismiss the bystanders.

Once the villa was clear, he slammed his cane on the ground. "If I didn't come back, the Cooper family would be toast!"

Sara and Richard shivered in fear.

Paul lifted his eyelids. "Do you know someone in Eldoria is digging into the Cooper family?"

"Digging into the Cooper family?" Sara scoffed. "Who? Do they have a death wish?"

Paul, holding a teacup, chucked it right at her!

Sara flinched as the teacup hit her.

"You idiot!" Paul puffed on his cigarette, his breath shaky with age. "How many times have I told you, watch your mouth and actions outside. Even if you look down on someone, don't show it!"

Sara, already in her seventies, trembled. "Dad, I messed up."

"I won't say much more." Paul squinted. "I've already handled things in Eldoria; nothing will get out. No more chances; from now on, behave yourself!"
