Chapter 154 Having Manic

Matteo was completely floored by their back-and-forth, which was so perfectly balanced yet oddly in sync.

He had been by Charles's side for years and had never seen anyone crack through Charles's icy, aloof exterior.

But here was this young woman, all smiles and charm, not scared of Charles one bit, even calling him by his nickname.

She probably hadn't seen Charles with blood on his hands, looking all violent and cold.

Whenever Charles dealt with someone, his followers would be shaking in their boots.

Yet, Charles was always fair, clear about rewards and punishments.

Nevertheless, no one had ever dared to get close to him.

Adeline didn't ask them to stay for dinner, noticing how tired Charles looked.

She just made dinner and packed some medicine for him to take home.

Adeline was all business. "I wrote down some dietary tips for you. Show them to your housekeeper and make sure not to mix up the ingredients."

Charles smiled, "Okay."

He was surprisingly cooperative with the treatment.

Matteo had lost track of how many times he'd been shocked.

Charles glanced at him, then turned to Adeline. "We need to talk privately."

"Privately?" Adeline thought for a second. "Follow me."

She led him to a quiet corner, with a great view but out of sight.

"What do you want to talk about?" Adeline asked casually.

Charles looked into her eyes. "How long have you been like this?"

"What?" Adeline was confused.

Charles grabbed her wrist, turning it over, his body moving closer in the tight space, yet surprisingly gentle. "How long have you been struggling with losing control, causing harm, unable to rein in your strength, or perhaps, the inner turmoil?"

"What? Are you a psychologist now?" Adeline was pinned against the wall, but she didn't panic. Her smile deepened, looking uniquely beautiful. "You want to treat me?"

Charles's fingers rubbed her wrist, his voice deep. "If you ever need to deal with someone in the future, tell me. You don't have to get your own hands dirty."

"We'll see." Adeline felt an odd irritation, like the closer he got, the more annoyed she became.

She hadn't felt this way in a long time.

It was like a starving person seeing a steak.

And the steak was chasing you, wanting you to eat it.

Adeline quickly glanced at his face.

No, he was different from anyone she'd met before.

He looked expensive, not someone to keep around.

"Don't be impatient." Charles's voice had a hint of helplessness, sounding even more soothing than usual, like he was coaxing a stubborn girl. "Call me if you need anything. People with mania should avoid physical confrontations."

Who would've thought that Charles, the business world's top dog, would talk like this?

Adeline looked at him, suddenly feeling an impulse, a kind of obsession brought by her mania, flowing in her blood, hard to control.

"Give me something else for today’s medical fee," she said, her usually casual voice now a bit hoarse.
