Chapter 104 Hidden Skills
Adeline said, "I have money."
"You did, but now you've been kicked out, and they've even cut off your credit cards," Summer said, running her fingers through her long hair. "You always know how to make me smile."
Adeline's grin stayed put. "Grandma, I..."
Before she could finish, Summer's phone rang, its shrill tone cutting through the air.
Summer glanced at the caller ID, and the warmth in her eyes vanished. She wanted to get up and take the call away from Adeline and Robert.
Adeline was quick. "Is it Angela?"
Seeing no point in hiding it, Summer nodded.
Adeline smiled softly. "Grandma, go ahead. We are grown-ups now. Whatever it is, we're here with you."
Hearing Adeline's words, Summer felt a warmth in her heart and suddenly found the strength to answer the call she dreaded.
"You finally picked up. Anyone would think I, as your daughter-in-law, wasn't taking good care of you." Angela's sharp, sarcastic voice came through. "The Clark family just called me, saying you borrowed money from them to reopen the clinic and asked if they should lend it to you."
Angela sneered. "Mom, have you forgotten that you once caused a patient's death?"
Summer's fingers started to tremble, her voice low. "This has nothing to do with you."
"Nothing to do with me?" Angela was getting angry. "Are you trying to pull some strings for Adeline? You're really something, helping a fake granddaughter instead of your real one!"
Summer took a deep breath. "Adeline is as real to me as any blood relative!"
"I called to tell you not to use Henry's name to borrow money," Angela said while getting a beauty treatment, a $10,000 whitening injection that required her to stay in a good mood. "You're getting old. Isn't it time you wrote a will for Stella? She's been back for so long, and you haven't shown any gesture. It's not appropriate, right?"
The mocking tone made Summer's fingers turn red from gripping the phone. "You all are well-off and don't need my shabby house. Don't call again, or don't blame me for being rude!"
"Mom, if you really have the guts, show me how you'll be rude." Angela sneered. "Do you think your massage parlor can still thrive?"
"Let's see." Suddenly, the voice on the other end changed, becoming calm and straightforward.
It was Adeline. She had taken Summer's phone, her eyes cold as ice.
This made Angela's expression turn cold. "Adeline, I've said all the nice things I could to you. I've raised you for so many years, and now you're helping Summer against me. I don't care what you're thinking. If you want to scam Summer's money, go ahead, but don't show up in front of me and Stella again!"
With that, Angela angrily hung up the phone. She felt utterly disdainful. As long as she didn't allow it, no one in Eldoria would dare lend money to Summer!
She wanted to see how they would reopen the Lumina Vitae Foundation!
In the small courtyard, Summer had steadied her trembling hand. "Adeline, don't worry about the money. I'll find a way. I won't let you and Robert miss out on school."
Just as she finished speaking, a message came through.
It was from the Clark family, apologizing and saying they were currently strapped for cash and couldn't lend any money.
