Chapter 123 We Are Dating
Adeline gave a small smile. "Grandma wants to know what you want to eat. She'll whip it up when you get back."
Charles noticed something was off with Adeline today. "What?"
Adeline's expression didn't change. "She's right here with me."
Summer, feeling a bit awkward, rubbed her nose and mumbled, "I just thought you might be pulling my leg."
Adeline chuckled. "Believe me now?"
Summer nodded, grinning from ear to ear.
Charles caught a bit of the conversation and smirked. "Grandma, what did she lie to you about?"
He followed Adeline's lead and called her Grandma too.
Summer let her guard down even more. "It was just me overthinking. Adeline said you two were dating, and I didn't buy it."
"Dating?" Charles's eyes twinkled with interest as he looked at Adeline's stunning face.
Summer was confused. "Isn't that true?"
Adeline was about to say something.
Charles jumped in, his laugh low and smooth, "Yeah, we're dating. She finally stopped hiding me. She said it's a trial period and didn't want me to tell anyone."
Adeline's eyes narrowed slightly at the lie.
Summer frowned. "Adeline, that's not right. How can you hide your boyfriend? If you're dating, you should be open about it."
Charles coughed lightly, his lashes lowering, voice a bit hoarse. "She wants to focus on her studies first and didn't want you to worry, Grandma."
Feeling sympathetic, Summer comforted him, "It doesn't worry me. You two can date normally."
Charles finally looked up and smiled. "With your blessing, I can relax."
"Grandma, I need to have a word with him," Adeline said.
If she let Charles keep going, things would get messy.
Vanessa chimed in, "Young couples need their private talks."
Summer nodded, clearly in a good mood.
Adeline, sounding a bit helpless, said into the phone, "Forget it; we'll talk when you get back."
"Okay." Charles looked at her rarely emotional eyes, his pleasant voice tinged with laughter, oddly charming. "Dear."
That last word was totally unnecessary. Adeline hung up the video call and faced Summer's smiling face. "Now, can you relax?"
"Yes!" Summer cheerfully told Vanessa. "He's way better looking than Harold."
Vanessa agreed.
Adeline casually walked out of the clinic, texting with one hand: [Thanks for earlier.]
Charles replied: [My family elders are always on my case about getting married too. I feel you.]
Adeline had just typed out "You acted too naturally," when another message came through.
Charles texted: [Wait for me to come back.]
Seeing this, Adeline deleted her message.
Then she texted: [Okay.]
Abroad, Charles's usually deep, dark eyes had a different look as he read her reply.
Patrick, who walked in, could tell Charles was in a good mood.
"Mr. Livingston, the car's ready."
Charles nodded, putting away his phone, and seemed to think of something. "Find someone to design a few dresses."
"A few? You mean dresses?" Patrick was stunned.
Charles's gaze was cool. "Is there a problem?"
"No, no problem!" Patrick's face was conflicted, just wondering how Nicholas would react when he found out.
