Chapter 204 Vulnerable Groups
Patrick had never seen Charles look so cold.
From the moment he received the call, a stormy chill had settled in his eyes.
As he walked to the car, the air around him seemed to freeze.
People couldn't hear what he was saying, nor did they dare to listen. He just stood there, and everyone around him felt a shiver down their spines.
What on earth had happened back home?
Charles spoke on the phone for a good ten minutes.
No one dared to approach him; even through the rain, they could sense the oppressive tone in his voice.
After hanging up the phone, Charles called Jack.
Jack was still at the police station, growing angrier the more he investigated.
Seeing Charles' call made his chest tighten with anxiety and guilt.
Charles was straightforward and polite. "I'm sorry to bother you at this time, but I've received some news and have a few questions. If a public official uses their position to frame my girlfriend, how do you plan to handle it? When I left Eldoria, I entrusted her to you not for special treatment. It's not easy to surport her family at such a young age.. I just hoped her path would be a bit smoother. Now I've heard that my girlfriend might be facing serious charges?"
If Charles had come in like some entitled family scion, Jack might not have felt so guilty.
Though he was clearly seeking accountability, Charles remained calm, stating facts and mentioning Adeline's difficult circumstances.
Hearing this, Jack wished he could sentence Victor to death on the spot!
Technically, he wasn't supposed to disclose case details.
But given Charles' close relationship with Adeline, Jack didn't hold back. He explained everything, including that one of the arrested individuals was the city council secretary. The reason no statement had been released was because it was tied to another "cyberbullying" case. Adeline, as the evidence collector, was working with the special operations team on the final stages of the operation.
"Her? Special operations team?"
Charles' eyes darkened, lost in thought.
Jack lowered his voice. "She's incredible. She remained calm under interrogation and had this ace up her sleeve. She's exceptionally smart."
"Just because she's smart doesn't mean you can ignore that she's vulnerable," Charles said, fiddling with the bracelet on his wrist, his voice cool. "She has no connections or background. If she weren't so smart, she would have been skinned alive in your police station. How could she still be standing here unharmed?"
Jack felt utterly ashamed. "Don't worry; we'll make sure she gets justice."
"Justice is indeed necessary." Charles' eyes were deep and dark. "But this time, it's different. Jack, you must have noticed the public opinion online."
Jack knew that if this case wasn't handled well in terms of public relations, even if Adeline was innocent, she could be ruined.
Seeing Jack deep in thought, Charles stated the ultimate purpose of the call. "I need you to issue a case statement first. The Livingston Group will handle the rest."
