Chapter 20 Critical Condition Notice
Nathan would never let Alexander's secret out!
Nathan wasn't sleeping on Adeline; it's just that the Vanderbilt Family always played it cool, staying outta the spotlight and working behind the scenes. They ain't exactly famous in the social circles.
Some of the smaller families didn't even know the Vanderbilts exist.
When the Vanderbilt crew rolled out, they never dropped their family name, keeping it super low-key. Folks who didn't know the deal might even think the Vanderbilts were washed up with no heirs.
But even a "fading" Vanderbilt Family still had folks lining up to get in their good graces.
Families all over Eldoria were dying to link up with the Vanderbilts. If they caught wind of Alexander being in town, it would mess up his treatment big time.
Nathan couldn't let out Alexander's identity on the down-low during this Eldoria trip.
Adeline just watched quietly. A doc should keep their patient's privacy on lock.
No matter who the patient was, to her, they were just another patient.
But Adeline was scratching her head. Why would the Vanderbilt Family show up at Sunnybrook Apartments looking for their long-lost daughter?
Before she could think too much, the car pulled up at Eldoria Medical University Affiliated Hospital.
Alexander was laid out in the 601 VIP ward, burning up with a fever, out cold, coughing like crazy, and mumbling nonstop.
The Vanderbilt Family's private doc, William Wright, was pretty sharp, but he couldn't figure out what was up with these symptoms.
Seeing Alexander knocked out, he was freaking out and begged the hospital to get Sara ASAP.
She was a big-shot foreign expert, so she had to have some solutions!
Sara was already stressed with the Zephyrox Alliance drama, and now the hospital wanted her to pull an all-nighter? She was not having it. "Make an appointment! You get that? If they can't book one, then tough luck! Don't bug me for every little thing!"
A nurse said, "Ms. Cooper, the old guy's condition is really bad and complicated. I'm worried he won't make it."
Sara rolled her eyes. "Then tell him to go somewhere else!"
"That's not cool," the on-duty doc, Xavier Taylor, couldn't help but say. "The patient needs help."
Sara snapped, "You telling me how to do my job?"
The doc quickly backpedaled, "The patient’s from Zelphoria. Can you consider it?"
Zelphoria? Tons of people were from Zelphoria! She just wasn't in the mood to see patients today! She brushed it off, "Yeah, yeah, I'll get to it."
"Okay!"
Even though she said she'd come, Sara was still MIA, nowhere to be found.
William was pacing like crazy outside, and in a panic, he hit up the Livingston family for help.
Then, a scream came from the ward.
"Oh, crap! The patient's heart and lungs are tanking!"
"Check his pupils!"
"Where's the family? Where are they?" William was sweating bullets, clueless about what to do.
The docs were still yelling, "We need surgery now; get the family's signature!"
The hallway was a madhouse, with medical staff running around.
Adeline, who had just rolled up with Nathan, saw the chaos.
Nathan knew something was up and grabbed the freaked-out William. "What's going on?"
William's eyes were red. "Mr. Vanderbilt might not make it."
"What?" Nathan stammered. "How? Wasn't it just a cold?"
William shook his head. "It started like that, but you know Mr. Vanderbilt's health. His lungs were already messed up, and after days of nonstop stress, it's gotten worse."
"Then fix it!" Nathan yelled. "You want Mr. Vanderbilt to die on our watch?"
William said, "I don't want that either, but I'm out of options. Ms. Cooper still hasn't shown up, and I'm stuck."
"Let me try." Adeline softly cut in, her eyes locked on Alexander, who was fighting for his life.
