Chapter 276 Mr. Green is Adeline's Teacher
His wrist was so attractive that anything he wore looked even better, exuding an air of ascetic nobility.
Adeline couldn't help but glance a couple more times and suddenly asked, "What is the Vanderbilt Family's attitude towards Ms. Vanderbilt?"
"Mr. Vanderbilt has been looking for her, both openly and secretly, for many years." Charles smiled lightly as he served her some meat. "Why are you suddenly interested in this?"
Adeline, distracted, replied, "Just trying to know more about my patient, and you are distant relatives."
Charles paused, holding his knife and fork, and said in a pleasant voice, "Actually, our families have always been close friends, not distant relatives. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been an engagement."
At his mention, Adeline remembered this fact.
Her gaze shifted, feeling a bit odd.
Charles didn't want her to misunderstand. "The engagement has been called off, and now that the Vanderbilt Family has found her, they are willing to cancel it."
Adeline lowered her eyes and continued eating. It was fine that it was called off; she had no plans for an early marriage.
Charles chuckled softly, explaining thoroughly, "I don't know Ms. Vanderbilt. The engagement was originally arranged because of a prophecy. My family hoped I would live a long life."
"What prophecy?" Adeline became interested. She needed to know about things related to her, especially since her former job was related to this.
Charles loosened his collar, his eyes deep and attractive. "A highly respected master said that only by marrying Ms. Vanderbilt from the Vanderbilt Family could I live past 30."
Adeline laughed. "What kind of master is that? A fraud, perhaps."
Charles gently covered her lips. "Stop it. You are healthy and don't need such things. You might not know, but back then, there was a Noah in Eldoria who was indeed at the pinnacle of his craft, skilled in divination and fate. He was a capable person."
"Don't speak ill of Mr. Green behind his back; it will affect your fortune." Charles's eyes were beautiful and deep, even when he was trying to scare her.
Adeline's eyes half-narrowed. "Noah Green?"
"Yes." Charles served her another bowl of meat.
Adeline didn't eat. If her memory was correct, her teacher had the same name.
Her teacher wouldn't make such a random prophecy!
Wait, that wasn't Noah's drunken talk she overheard!
"Adeline, you won't wake up anytime soon. Based on your previous preferences, I found someone you might like. How about a husband with an aura of nobility?"
Adeline didn't take his words to heart.
Now it seemed Noah might have deliberately deceived people for her sake.
Adeline looked at the face she indeed liked very much, her tone somewhat complicated. "You should take what these diviners say with a grain of salt. We need to focus on scientific treatment."
Seeing her serious little face, Charles couldn't help but laugh. He put his hand to his lips and coughed lightly. "I know. Haven't I already entrusted myself to your care?"
Why did it feel like he had ended up in her hands anyway?
Adeline brought the topic back. "I met the Vanderbilt Family's adopted daughter before."
Charles put down his knife and fork, listening to her continue.
"There's something I don't quite understand," Adeline said calmly. "If they are so eager to find their biological granddaughter, why adopt someone else?"
Charles's voice was cool and objective. "Strictly speaking, she is just someone the Vanderbilt Family sponsored. Mr. Vanderbilt has always been looking for his biological granddaughter, just like Lorenzo. As for others, I don't know and won't comment."
Adeline smiled. "I understand now."
Charles looked at her. "Today, you seem very interested in the Vanderbilt Family."
"Mr. Livingston! Mr. Vanderbilt is here!"
