Chapter 290 He Worried She Might Get Angry
Charles's fingers paused.
Adeline moved closer to his face, her voice clear. "I've known you for so long, and since I first met you in the hospital, I always assumed your last name was Vanderbilt. Now that I think about it, there were some oddities. You can have Nathan listen to you so well, and Aaron personally accompany you to the hospital. It's not just the Vanderbilt family that can do that. The Livingston family can do even more."
Adeline's gaze fell on his wrist. "You've been wearing that calming bracelet for years; I should have realized who you are."
Charles supported her, coughing lightly, his lips pale. "I thought I could keep it a secret, I'm sorry. I didn't expect you to find out."
His face was handsome, and without glasses, it looked harmless and noble.
"Charles." Charles's smile was faint. "Nice to meet you, my fiancée."
Adeline, being smart, looked at him for a long time before saying, "Don't use your face to confuse me. You never corrected my misunderstanding about you, and sometimes you even deliberately hid your identity."
Her tone was so certain.
It left him with nowhere to escape.
Charles felt a bit stuffy in his chest; he knew this day would come sooner or later.
At first, he thought there was no need to explain.
She was the doctor, he was the patient.
Later, it slowly came to this.
Charles coughed lightly, one bout after another, and helped her adjust her scarf, his voice a bit hoarse. "I was indeed hiding my identity. I was worried that if you knew who I was, you would distance yourself from me."
Adeline frowned, confused. "Me? Distance myself from you?"
"Have you forgotten how much you dislike the Livingston family?" Charles looked down at her, his voice carrying a slight hint of grievance. "Especially me."
Adeline suddenly remembered something she had said before.
Charles tucked her long hair behind her ear. "I also know I have a bad reputation."
Wait, Adeline raised an eyebrow, she never said he had a bad reputation.
Charles's smile was faint. "Because of my health, I've rarely made friends since I was young, and I don't know how to connect with people. After all, everyone knows I've always been sick, and they're afraid that getting close to me would bring them bad luck."
The bodyguard standing nearby had a hard time keeping a straight face.
What Charles said wasn't false.
But he remembered that it was Charles who didn't like to play with others.
He would sit in the study, writing and reading, never stepping outside.
People in Zelphoria wanted to get close to Charles.
But Charles's aura was noble from a young age.
Charles seemed to sense his gaze and looked over.
The bodyguard broke out in a cold sweat and immediately lowered his eyes.
Charles fastened her purple pendant. "You are my first friend."
This was true.
Adeline could sense it, so she let it go.
She wouldn't hold a grudge against a patient.
Everyone had secrets, and she had many of her own.
But why did Noah choose him to be her fiancé?
Was it some kind of karma?
Adeline squinted at him, unable to see through him.
Could it be because she hadn't regained all her memories?
Charles didn't know what she was looking at. On the surface, he appeared calm and restrained, but inside, his heart was racing with her gaze.
Was she still angry or had she forgiven him?
"What else did Mr. Green tell you?" Adeline asked with a light smile, raising an eyebrow.
He had kept it from her for so long; it wasn't too much to get some information out of him.
Charles's deep, attractive eyes looked at her. "I told you before, he said that only by marrying you could I live past 30."
