Chapter 237 The Mysterious Village
The mayor, Ole Spencer, had already seen Adeline's photo.
He was very pleased with her appearance and explicitly expressed his desire to meet her soon.
Jessica and Leroy, of course, wanted to bring her over as soon as possible.
They still needed to continue deceiving her, ensuring Adeline had no thoughts of resistance.
Many female students were initially reluctant, but eventually, they all stayed in Eastgate Towns to raise children.
A woman, once she had a child, her heart settled down.
As they entered Eastgate Towns, Jessica eagerly started making contact.
The meeting was set for tonight, as the longer they waited, the more things could go wrong.
The journey was rough, with few paved roads and many potholes, causing the van to shake a lot.
In terms of infrastructure, there were always some neglected areas, and the network connection on the road was poor.
By the time Adeline opened her eyes again, the vehicle had already stopped.
Jessica looked at her kindly. "Adeline, get out of the car. Let's go meet your grandfather."
Adeline's long hair was a bit messy, but it didn't affect her cool demeanor. She raised her hand and pressed her forehead. "I feel a bit dizzy."
"You've been in the car for too long, and it was a bumpy ride." Jessica handed her a plum. "Here, eat this to refresh yourself."
Leroy took all the luggage out of the car.
Adeline, holding a black bag, stood in front of the village sign, observing the small road.
"Let's go, everyone at home is waiting to see you."
This was true; the whole family was eager to see what the "daughter" they brought back looked like.
The village was very hospitable.
Everyone greeted Leroy as they saw him.
"Leroy, you're back! Is this the daughter you brought back from the city?"
"She looks really beautiful!"
Leroy scratched his head. "Of course, come over to our place for a drink later!"
"No problem!"
As they walked, Adeline didn't say a word, as if she was still half-asleep.
This made Leroy feel safe.
Leroy didn't like Adeline's city demeanor, with eyes that seemed to see through people.
She also needed to change her clothes, which he would find an opportunity to do later.
As Leroy was thinking, they arrived at the Vanderbilt house.
Just as Jessica had said, they were not poor.
At least in the village, they stood out. Unlike other houses, theirs was tiled and had a fenced yard.
It looked peaceful and happy, the idyllic rural life one might yearn for.
If not for the sudden appearance of two wolfdogs, staring fiercely at Adeline, as if ready to pounce on her if she moved.
Leroy didn't expect the dogs to be unchained and shouted inside, "Samuel, what are you doing? Why didn't you keep an eye on Rocky and Max!"
After shouting, Leroy turned to Adeline. "Adeline, don't be afraid. Rocky and Max just look fierce; they don't harm family members."
That was an interesting statement—what about those who aren't family?
Adeline's eyes slightly lifted, as if she smiled.
The smile was faint, floating in the air, making Leroy think he had imagined it.
"You must be my biological sister!"
Suddenly, a figure ran out.
He was quite big and strong, probably around fifteen years old, and he grabbed Adeline's hand.
Adeline looked at his face and slowly smiled. "You look healthy, not like someone who's sick."
