Chapter 89 Liking Men
"Yeah, kinda. I tried to help him out before. But their security wouldn't let me in, and their assistant was super rude," Adeline said, recalling a couple of recent run-ins. "They called me a broke student and told me to know my place. I don't forget stuff like that."
It turned out, Adeline had already figured out who Kenneth was but she didn't brought it up.
The Wilsons and the Joneses were tight. Kenneth, the special assistant from the Livingston family, mus have seen her at some party, which explained his snobby attitude when she was saving the kid. And as for who was in that fancy Maybach, it was pretty obvious.
Adeline thought, 'I didn't even mention how Mr. Livingston had been helping the operation unit tabs on me these past few days.'
Her current identity was her best disguise.
Patrick's face changed after hearing Adeline's story, and he glanced at Charles, unsure.
"Did that really happen? Which special assistant had the guts to look down on Adeline?"
Charles fiddled with the bracelet on his wrist, his grip tightening, and a cold look flashed in his eyes.
Patrick, who knew him well, stiffened a bit. Was Charles mad?
Not exactly mad, but Charles couldn't believe it. "Even the security stopped you?"
"Not just stopped me; they tried to kick me out," Adeline said casually. She was making excuses; the real reason she didn't want to treat that guy was that he was too dangerous.
Robert was too special. If the operation unit targeted him, it wouldn't end well.
So Adeline wasn't about to take any cases from the Livingston family.
"Looks like the Livingston Group needs some internal cleanup." Charles straightened his bracelet and looked at Patrick, his gaze growing darker.
Patrick broke out in a cold sweat and didn't dare say a word.
Adeline chuckled, resting her chin on her hand, looking a bit playful. "Actually, it's not really about their internal stuff. I just don't like Mr. Livingston. I've heard a lot of people want to marry him. What if I go to treat him and he thinks I have a crush on him?"
She said this to completely shut down Charles's idea of speaking up for the Livingston family.
Unexpectedly, Charles slowly furrowed his brows, his voice carrying a hint of a smile, though his eyes were cold. "Have you met Mr. Livingston? Why would you say that?"
"I haven't, but there are plenty of rumors," Adeline replied lazily, thinking he wanted some gossip. "Your circle should know. Isn't he known for not letting anyone get close? Just like in novels, he's not into women."
Charles took a sip of tea, his smile faint. "I thought not being into women was a good thing."
"I used to think so too." Adeline leaned closer to him. "Until I heard about his affair with a male celebrity. They say he even started an entertainment company just to support that guy. If that's not true love, what is?"
Patrick finally caught on, his mouth hanging open. "Are you saying he likes men?"
He thought, 'Please shut up! Can't you see Charles's eyes have turned icy cold?'
