Chapter 105 One Million Dollars
Summer grinned and said, "Alright, Joshua. Thanks. I get it."
Getting help was a bonus, but not getting it was just how things went. It was a favor if someone helped you, and it was normal if they didn't.
Summer knew her manners.
Joshua suggested: [How about we don't open it? Trust me, this store's not gonna make it. If you run out of food or clothes, we can still sneak some your way.]
Five grand was pocket change for these families.
Angela wouldn't even spend that on a dinner, but she wouldn't give it away or let anyone else either.
Adeline's eyes darkened, her fingers drumming on the table.
She looked unfazed. Dressed in black, her eyes were the only thing that stood out, hinting at danger.
Robert's eyes were already red, and he was about to get up. The Jones family was asking for trouble.
Adeline casually pressed him back down. "Chill out."
Robert's young face was blank as he made a hand gesture.
Adeline dabbed at her mouth with a napkin. "Don't worry; we'll get them back."
Robert perked up, gesturing excitedly.
Sometimes Summer couldn't decode their secret language, but this time she got it. "Our Robert's growing up, standing up for me. Standing up is good, but no fighting. Fighting lands you in jail."
Robert deflated, head down. He still wanted to take down Angela and then Stella. Not being able to fight really cramped his style.
Adeline knew his thoughts and smiled, hinting, "Grandma's right. Fighting's illegal. But for some people, losing everything is worse than getting hurt."
Robert's eyes lit up!
Adeline wouldn't talk about this in front of Summer, so she pulled up an account on her phone and changed the topic. "Grandma, check this out."
When Summer saw the balance, she thought she was seeing things. She put on her reading glasses and counted again, eyes wide. "A million bucks! Adeline, where'd you get this money?"
Adeline showed Summer just her usual pocket money, knowing more would freak her out. She lowered her voice. "A friend introduced me to a rich patient. They paid the medical fees, and I also made a lot from the Livingston family yesterday."
Summer was stunned. "Is the consultation fee that high?"
"They're from the Livingston family. Giving less would be an insult," Adeline said whatever it took to make Summer believe. "It's not just the consultation fee. Robert and I also sold some medicine."
Robert nodded eagerly!
Summer was both happy and surprised, looking at the balance on the screen, knowing the money was legit, she couldn't help but smile. "A million bucks! It's really a million bucks!"
"Yep, Grandma, a million bucks. We don't need to worry about school or opening a store." Adeline smiled. "Spend what you need. When we open the Lumina Vitae Foundation, we'll have even more money."
Listening to Adeline, Summer suddenly felt hopeful for the future. "Can we make more than a million bucks?"
