Chapter 52 The Banquet Begins
The shindig this time wasn’t in the city but out at the Caesar Hotel in the western burbs.
Adeline ditched her Dodge Tomahawk. After packing her med kit and invite, she grabbed a cab.
Was she trippin’? The invite seemed kinda off.
Adeline was lost in thought as she sat in the taxi.
The driver was a bit shocked when he heard the destination. "That’s not a spot just anyone can hit up. I heard all the bigwigs are heading there today. Are you...?"
"I'm just gonna check it out," Adeline said with a sly grin.
The driver chuckled. "Yeah, right. A young lady like you ain't going there to treat someone."
Adeline just smiled quietly, not saying a word.
The Caesar Hotel had different vibes.
The one downtown in Eldoria was open to everyone.
The one in the western burbs was like a rose estate, with golf, shooting, horseback riding, and all that fancy stuff. It was huge.
This place had royal-level service and was the private club of the Livingston fam. Without an invite from them, regular folks couldn’t get in.
The invite was the golden ticket. The big-shot docs who got invites brought their students or assistants, keeping things all serious and academic.
Among them, folks from the Cooper fam, the Taylor fam, the Carter fam, and the Mitchell fam all knew each other and exchanged hellos.
Some regular docs awkwardly sat on the side, chatting in low voices.
Other non-medical peeps were chilling in the front hall, like Angela.
She looked around the whole estate, eyes wide with greed. "Wow, this place is crazy beautiful and fancy!"
Turning her head, Angela helped Sara again. "Stella and I are here all thanks to you."
"No need to be so formal," Sara, who was also here for the first time, acted all experienced. "Angela, when you get inside, don’t be so wowed by everything."
Angela nodded. "You’re right."
All the guests today were big names, so she had to watch her step.
Even though the Martinez fam had dough, it was nothing compared to today’s scene.
Stella stood beside them, her soft eyes also taking it all in. She didn’t say anything, but her heart was pounding.
Everyone waited for a bit, and seeing that it hadn’t started yet, got curious.
"It’s almost time. Why haven’t we seen anyone from the Livingston fam?"
"Maybe the Livingston fam is waiting for someone important?"
James sneered. "Who could be worth the Livingston fam waiting for?"
He couldn't help but think, 'These colleagues without family backgrounds were so clueless!'
In the study within the estate, Nicholas Livingston, with his deep-set eyes and white hair, looked sharp, his eyes full of righteousness.
"Grandpa, it’s getting late," Nicholas’s eldest granddaughter, Tessa Livingston, reminded him. "It’s not cool to keep the docs waiting."
Nicholas leisurely sipped his tea. "What’s the rush? Not everyone’s here yet."
Tessa guessed, "Are you waiting for the miracle doc?"
"No." Nicholas put down his teacup.
Tessa wanted to ask more.
But she saw Nicholas put on an external headset, his eyes bright with interest as he looked into the hall.
Tessa was curious. Who could make Nicholas so attentive?
Nicholas was definitely attentive. Ever since he heard from Patrick that Charles’s appetite had improved, he wanted to meet this extraordinary doc, Adeline, that Patrick spoke of.
If it weren’t for Charles stopping him, he would’ve sent someone to find out long ago. Now he had to do it on the down-low, which was kinda embarrassing.
Luckily, he organized this medical seminar, and she would be attending.
