Chapter 59 Profit-Driven Merchants
Adeline grabbed the wooden chair with one hand, plopped it down somewhere else, and sat with her legs crossed like she owned the place. "Where'd this ugly dude come from? He's yappin' too much."
Ugly dude?
The room went dead silent!
Harold's face was a mix of shock and rage, his lips quivering. "What did you just say?"
"Ugly dude," Adeline repeated, grinning. "Didn't catch that? Maybe get your ears checked."
"Adeline!" Harold's chest was heaving with anger.
Everyone's faces shifted.
Especially Stella, who clenched her fists, her brows knitting together.
What the heck?
Wasn't she head over heels for Harold? Stella had seen Adeline practically grovel for him.
Stella took a deep breath.
Harold, looking like a clown who'd lost his act, said, "Adeline, have you forgotten how you used to beg me to treat you nicely?"
"A woman in love ain't ever rational," Adeline said, her eyes distant. "Besides, you and I both know the truth."
Someone in the crowd couldn't hold back and yelled, "You're the one clinging to Mr. Mitchell. What truth are you talking about?"
Harold's face went pale at the mention of "the truth," scared she might spill the beans. He tried to play it cool. "Forget it. Without the Martinez Family, she wouldn't be doing well either. For old times' sake, I won't hold it against her."
With that, he turned away from Adeline and went back to his seat.
Even though he tried to save face, he still looked defeated.
Sara, who'd been enjoying the drama, decided to jump in. "Harold's got talent and looks. What makes you think you can look down on him?"
Just like that, Adeline became the enemy of both the Mitchell Family and the Cooper family.
The head of the Mitchell Family, Steven's uncle Elijah, stayed calm, sitting high and mighty. He didn't say anything to Adeline, but after sipping his tea, he shot Steven a sharp look. "Aren't you coming over?"
Steven wanted to follow Oliver and the others, but it was too awkward, so he slinked off to a corner.
The doctors and scholars there could see the Mitchell Family's action was making a statement.
Adeline was in for a rough time at the seminar.
Oliver glanced at Adeline, who'd just pissed off both families. "You're really not scared, huh?"
Adeline popped a fruit candy in her mouth, her tone casual. "They're just a couple of money-hungry merchants; what's there to be scared of?"
"Money-hungry merchants? Do you know that in the medical field, they were... wait! Why does that sound so familiar?" Oliver scratched his head, feeling like he'd heard that somewhere before.
Adeline reached out and patted his head, liking the feel of it. "If you can't remember, don't sweat it. You and Oscar should get ready."
"Ready for what?" Oscar was still in shock.
Adeline grabbed her black bag and stood up. "To dominate the room and take first place."
"What?" Oscar looked confused.
Oliver wanted to say something more.
A hearty laugh suddenly echoed from upstairs.
