Chapter 103 Identity Exposed
"Sure," Adeline said, not really thinking it through.
After Charles left, she couldn't shake the weird feeling that him checking in before heading out was kinda intimate.
And that cool sensation on her wrist was like a constant reminder of Charles.
Charles reached the intersection where a sleek, limited edition Maybach was waiting. The driver gave a respectful nod and opened the door.
At this moment, Charles was completely different from when he was in front of Adeline. He loosened his diamond cufflinks, and the intensity in his eyes made the guy on the other end of the video call look away.
"Get rid of everyone," he ordered.
"We'll talk more when I get there."
Once he took off the bracelet, it was like a weight lifted. He still had that cold, noble vibe, but there was something dangerous in his eyes now.
Vanessa, zipping by on her electric scooter, caught sight of him.
She stopped, furrowed her brows, and muttered, "Isn't that Adeline's super hot friend? How did he end up in that car?"
Robert had mentioned that car was worth over two million bucks, and that was a lowball estimate!
Adeline's friend was seriously loaded!
Vanessa made a mental note to tell Adeline all about it after work.
Charles, busy with business in the car, didn't notice her. The Maybach sped out of Chrysanthemum Alley and headed for the airport highway.
The city center was buzzing with traffic.
But no matter how busy it got, it didn't touch the peace of the clinic.
When Adeline walked into the courtyard, Robert was munching on a sandwich next to Summer.
Summer smiled at him, telling him to slow down, her face full of warmth.
After a long day, Adeline was starving too. She dropped her black bag and leaned over to take a bite of Robert's sandwich.
Robert looked like he was about to get mad, his little fists clenched, but Summer asked, "Why are you back so late?"
Robert immediately grinned and gestured towards Adeline.
Adeline washed her hands at the outdoor faucet before sitting down. "Good job not charging money."
Robert looked proud!
Summer, unable to do much about Robert, turned to Adeline. "Your friend had someone buy a bunch of stuff. You should return it another day."
Adeline raised an eyebrow. "What stuff?"
Robert pointed behind him.
That's when Adeline noticed the unopened boxes: a TV, refrigerator, iPad, elderly massage chair, and a kitchen appliance set.
Summer sighed. "He must've seen we're struggling and wanted to help."
Robert looked confused.
Summer patted Robert's head. "You two have had it rough with me."
"We are both unwanted kids," Adeline said softly. "Living with you, we have food and drink. How is that suffering?"
Summer thought for a moment and said, "Adeline, I've decided to reopen the Lumina Vitae Foundation. Let's do it like you suggested."
She pulled out a dirty bank card, indicating she must have saved for a long time.
"Adeline, I have thirty thousand dollars here. See what we need to buy to reopen the Lumina Vitae Foundation and use this money first."
