Chapter 136 The Boss Behind the Scenes
"Why are you still trying to fool me?"
Jason walked in, grinning like he just won the lottery.
Stanley was so freaked out his hand shook, and he ducked behind Adeline.
Adeline just glanced up, calm and collected, looking stunning as ever.
The second Jason walked in, he spotted her, but he didn't peg her as the boss. He strolled in with his bodyguards.
"Hey kid, are your parents home? I'm not feeling great. Saw your live stream and thought I'd drop by."
Jason knew how to play it cool.
If the boss lived here, she probably didn't want her cover blown.
But Adeline's eyes got a bit colder. "Kid?"
Jason's smug look vanished, and he spun around!
That voice, that tone—he knew it!
Adeline popped a fruit candy in her mouth, a slight smirk on her lips. "Mr. Bailey, busy folks like you forget faces easily. Don’t recognize me?"
Jason almost dropped to his knees!
"I..." Jason wanted to call her boss.
But one look from Adeline, and he zipped it.
Stanley was still there, eyes wide. "Adeline, you know this bad guy?"
Adeline said, "Stanley, take a good look. Isn't this the big boss who was on TV recently?"
Stanley squinted and looked at Jason again. "It really is!"
He had seen Jason on his phone, the billionaire coming to invest in Eldoria! He had been following the news!
"He's an old patient of my grandma's," Adeline explained.
Stanley nodded. "No wonder he showed up here!"
"Should I give him a check-up first?" Adeline smiled.
Stanley got the hint. "You handle it. I'll head out!"
With no outsiders around, Adeline glanced at Jason's bodyguards.
"Jason, if you're here for a check-up, let's keep it low-key." She casually put down the stand, her eyes on Jason. "Don't you think?"
Jason fiddled with his gold chain. "You're right. Mark stays; everyone else, wait outside."
"Don't hang around Chrysanthemum Alley; it's too obvious," Adeline said lightly.
Jason quickly added, "Wait by the car!"
"Yes, Mr. Bailey!"
The bodyguards left, puzzled. When had Jason ever shown such respect to anyone?
Inside the pharmacy, Jason looked both awed and shocked. "Boss, I never thought you were so young! And so good-looking; anyone who didn't know would think you were from some art school. It's all Isaac's fault; he got in touch with you but didn't tell me!"
"I told him not to," Adeline said softly, handing tea to him and Mark.
Jason felt a bit miffed. "You can't play favorites!"
Mark was also stunned! He had seen Adeline at the Martinez Mansion. Back then, Henry had said she was just a fake daughter, not worth mentioning.
Mark hadn't forgotten Henry's disdainful look when he talked about her, and how he kicked her out of the Martinez Family at the banquet.
Mark usually stayed out of such drama, but he thought Henry was too harsh. Adeline, with her black bag and indifferent look, had caught his eye for a moment.
Turned out, Adeline was the mysterious boss behind their whole operation!
