Chapter 48 He is Not Simple
Just then, footsteps echoed from outside the courtyard.
Robert, who'd been MIA all day, strolled in lugging a cloth bag.
He looked kinda shocked to see the house packed. He stopped for a sec, then glanced at Adeline.
Adeline raised an eyebrow. "Robert, you're back. Grandma's been worried sick about you all afternoon. Go grab some grub first."
Robert nodded and headed inside.
Xavier noticed Robert struggling with the big bag and offered to help. "That thing looks heavy. Let me give you a hand!"
His neck veins popped, but he still couldn't budge the bag!
"Man, this thing's no joke," Xavier said, embarrassed, trying again with both hands, gritting his teeth.
Robert just stood there, watching him, not lifting a finger.
Xavier finally gave up, arms dropping, panting. "What's in this thing, bricks?"
He thought, 'How's this kid so strong?'
Adeline walked over, picked up the bag like it was nothing, and tossed it into the storage room. "All set."
She made it look like she was just tossing out a small bag of trash.
Xavier was floored!
Summer chuckled. "Robert's got natural strength, and Adeline's into boxing. Check out the punching bag over there."
Xavier laughed. 'Her hobbies are definitely... unique!'
Charles stayed silent, sitting at the stone table with his sleeves slightly rolled up. He was spinning a cup with his fingers, eyes deep and intense, his cold vibe adding a heavy atmosphere to the courtyard.
Robert noticed him right away and gestured, "Who's that?"
Adeline took advantage of Summer going inside to cut fruit and replied, "A patient."
Robert looked at Charles again.
Charles had this clear, cold look, wearing a bracelet on his wrist. He seemed spotless, but his eyes had this wild, untamed vibe.
Robert didn't like him, feeling both familiar and mysterious.
Robert gestured his bad feelings to Charles intensely.
Adeline shrugged, "He pays well."
With that, Robert stopped gesturing and politely served tea, placing a payment QR code on the stone table.
Charles raised an amused eyebrow, his voice low and smooth. "Patrick, get the card out. The miracle doc should take it now."
"Well deserved." Adeline smiled, straight to the point.
Xavier was impressed.
But, could Robert not talk?
Xavier looked at Robert with pity.
Robert took the card, blew on it, and then carefully pocketed it. Seeing Xavier looking at him, he gestured, "What about you? How you gonna pay?"
"He's not a patient; he's the doc from across the street," Adeline said, unfazed.
Robert raised a small eyebrow. 'A competitor. Not worth my tea!'
Xavier was stunned as his tea set was taken away.
Luckily, with Summer in charge, Robert behaved.
Outside the pharmacy, Patrick hesitated.
Charles knew he had something to say and stopped. "Spit it out."
"Mr. Livingston, Robert's not your average Joe." Patrick chose his words carefully. "He's... complicated."
Charles's eyes were calm. "As long as he doesn't hurt anyone, it's all good."
Meanwhile, inside the pharmacy, Adeline opened the bag Robert brought back. Inside were hard drives, shopping cards, medical equipment, account records, and some lists.
"The Cooper family’s been up to no good, huh?" Adeline slowly curled her lips, a coldness in her eyes unseen by others. "No wonder no one in Eldoria dares to mess with them. They've got some serious connections."
