Chapter 79 Neither Stealing Nor Robbing
At six o'clock, the streets were jam-packed with cars, but Chrysanthemum Alley was just buzzing with people chatting away.
"Hey, did you hear?"
"Hear what?"
"The doctor from that big hospital across the street got nabbed."
"Isn't it just the Cooper family stirring up trouble again?" Vanessa chimed in, lugging her grocery bags. "They were totally bullying Summer last time!"
"Totally! The news said a bunch of patients got screwed over because of them!"
"She even messed with her colleagues. Summer must've been one of the victims!"
Vanessa shot a look over. "Now you all get it. That's not what you were saying before!"
"Summer's been living here forever without any issues."
"Last time I had a stomachache, couldn't afford the meds from the big hospital. Summer made me some soup, added something to it. No idea what, but it worked for just 50 bucks."
As they were chatting, Adeline strolled back with a wooden box, smiling faintly. "Vanessa, what worked for 50 bucks?"
"Oh, Adeline, you scared me!" Vanessa said. "We were just talking about how awesome Summer's remedies are."
Adeline's smile stayed put. "My grandma gave you medicine?"
"Just some food," Vanessa replied. "I know your grandma's rule; she doesn't treat illnesses."
Adeline set down the wooden box. "Why's everyone hanging out here?"
"They wanted to apologize to Summer!" Vanessa glanced at the neighbors. "They're just too embarrassed to go in."
Adeline smiled. "We're running a business; everyone's welcome."
"Then you gotta let Summer give my neck a good rub!" someone piped up. "I haven't been here for a few days, and it's all stiff and painful again!"
Adeline nodded and opened the door.
Robert, who'd been squatting in the inner courtyard, jumped up and ran over.
Adeline gave him a look.
Robert's hand, which he was about to raise, dropped. His eyes widened.
"Robert." Vanessa patted his head. "Where's your grandma? We're here for a group massage."
Robert hated when people touched his head. He resisted the urge to shove her off and pointed angrily behind him!
Vanessa happily went inside, clueless that if Adeline hadn't been there, Robert might've flipped her over with one hand!
A bunch of neighbors were chatting in the backyard. Whether they were there for treatment or not, at least the clinic was lively as usual.
Adeline was in charge of keeping the kids entertained. Otherwise, with Robert's current mood, he might dig a hole in the floor while carrying a wooden bucket.
"Your favorite." Adeline opened a black bag and tossed over a gift from the Livingston family.
Robert's eyes lit up when he saw his favorite ganoderma, and he smiled as he gestured.
"The Livingston family is pretty generous." Adeline looked at him, her voice soft. "No, you can't steal."
Robert was confused.
Adeline also tossed the wooden box to him. "They've got someone in their family who's kinda dangerous."
Robert gestured. "More dangerous than you?"
Adeline shrugged. "It's not a competition."
Robert eyed the deer antler.
Adeline's eyes narrowed. "Robert, I taught you the rules here. What did I say?"
Robert opened his mouth, showing off sharp canines.
Adeline said, "No stealing, robbing, or eating random stuff."
Robert was about to nod obediently when Adeline pinched his face, examining it closely. Her eyes darkened. "Why are your teeth growing so fast?"
