Chapter 15 Participating in a Free Clinic
Outside Sunnybrook Apartments, the Vanderbilt crew was all jittery and on edge.
All of them had jobs, so they could only dip out for a bit.
Alexander was sitting in a business car with a Zelphoria plate, looking all serious. "Didn't you say Adeline lives here? Why's everyone saying there's no such person?"
"I'll check again!" Nathan Moore, a chubby dude, wiped off his cold sweat. "The folks from Ravenwood Town said it might be a mix-up by the Martinez Family. I’ve already sent people to ask around. Maybe she's still with the Martinez Family."
Alexander frowned, radiating tension. "Sent people?"
"I'll go myself! Right now!" Nathan shivered and jumped out of the car.
Alexander was so mad he started coughing.
Over the years, Alexander's health had been crap because he missed Savannah, and after a trip to Ravenwood Town, his lungs got kinda messed up.
The doc with him said worriedly, "Mr. Vanderbilt, your body can't handle this anymore. You gotta get to a hospital ASAP. If you don't wanna go back to Zelphoria, we can treat you in Eldoria first. With Nathan keeping an eye on Sunnybrook Apartments, we'll get news eventually."
At first, Alexander wasn't having it, but when he started running a fever, his driver just drove away from Sunnybrook Apartments without a word!
No one in the car noticed that right then, Adeline, who was biking by, passed them.
As soon as Adeline got back to Sunnybrook Apartments, she kicked off a free clinic. People were coming non-stop, and she was so busy she didn't even have time to drink water.
But her phone kept blowing up.
She checked her phone and saw a bunch of messages.
Oliver: [Ms. Vanderbilt, why did you refuse the Livingston family's appointment?]
Oliver: [Ms. Vanderbilt, my family and I are waiting for you.]
Oliver: [Ms. Vanderbilt, is something wrong?]
Oliver: [Ms. Vanderbilt?]
Adeline replied, kinda exasperated: [I went, but the security guard wouldn't let me in.]
Oliver: [Security guard?] Oliver Taylor couldn't believe Adeline got stopped by a security guard and said awkwardly: [Ms. Vanderbilt, where are you? I'll come pick you up!]
Adeline took a sip of water. [No need. I'm at a free clinic; it's not convenient.]
Oliver was pacing back and forth, all anxious. [Ms. Vanderbilt, please come again. I'm begging you.]
[Oliver, you know my rule. I don't treat people who are just in it for the money.] After replying, Adeline turned off her phone.
She looked up at the elderly person who had come for treatment and asked kindly with her beautiful eyes, "Where does it hurt?"
"I can't lift my arm." The elderly person, dressed in plain clothes, was obviously from the county and not a resident of the community.
But everyone around knew that Adeline treated patients no matter who they were. Every Sunday, she’d offer free consultations to everyone.
Adeline touched the elderly person's shoulder. "It's a chill, and your bones are a bit fragile. Keeping one position for a long time while sleeping is not good. You need to move more; don't use a high pillow, and get plenty of rest."
"That's it? No need for an X-ray?" The elderly person widened their eyes. "No need for surgery either?"
"For minor issues, surgery isn't necessary." Adeline smiled. "Please extend your arm."
The elderly person did as told, looking doubtful.
Adeline held his arm and lifted it forcefully.
The elderly person hadn't even reacted.
Adeline smiled and said, "Try it now."
"I can lift my arm!" The elderly person waved his arm, totally amazed. "I can lift it now!"
The community residents were already used to Adeline's miraculous medical skills.
The elderly person excitedly held Adeline's hand. "Thank you! I've been to so many big hospitals, and they all said I needed surgery to get better. I'm from a small place, and my family really doesn't have the money. I was about to give up treatment, but luckily I met you today!"
