Chapter 34 Similar Appearance
Adeline strolled in, just lugging a black bag.
The second she stepped in, a deep, booming laugh echoed. "Is this our hero?"
In the corner of the hospital room, weak sunlight peeked through the curtains, giving the white sheets a chill vibe. Adeline nudged the door open and walked in, her eyes landing on Alexander by the bed.
Alexander was lying there, looking all calm and wise. His eyes, still sharp as ever, seemed even more knowing with age. Adeline couldn't help but silently admire him; this business legend was something else.
On the next bed was Charles, his slender frame giving off a kind of fragile beauty, like he was an elf from a painting. His long fingers trembled a bit, but it didn't take away from his elegance.
Adeline walked up to the bed, smiling as she greeted Alexander, "How you holding up?" Alexander gave a faint smile and nodded, showing he was doing alright.
Suddenly, Alexander's eyes lingered on Adeline's face, like something hit him. He looked a bit dazed, like he was remembering something.
"Your face... it looks just like my lover when I was young!" Alexander's voice had a mix of excitement and surprise, but his eyes stayed glued to Adeline's face.
Adeline was a bit taken aback, her heart fluttering. She knew she looked like someone else, but she didn't expect it to catch Alexander's eye. Maybe this resemblance brought back some old memories for him.
"Are you saying..." Adeline started, but Alexander cut in, "Are you from Eldoria? Ever been to Zelphoria or climbed Eldridge Wall?" His voice was full of anticipation, like he was searching for something.
Adeline smiled slightly, dodging his intense gaze. "Yeah, I'm a local. I've only seen Eldridge Wall on TV, but I've heard you gotta see it in person to get it." She chuckled softly. "If I get the chance, I'll take my grandma there."
This seemed to hit Alexander in the feels. He looked lost in his memories. Eventually, he pulled himself together and said softly, "Maybe I was mistaken; sorry about that."
Adeline felt a stir in her heart; she knew her presence had brought back some old stories for Alexander. She reassured him, "The Vanderbilt Family's been doing good for generations; Ms. Vanderbilt will definitely come back safe." These words brought a smile to Alexander's face, easing his worries a bit.
Charles, who had been sitting quietly, suddenly spoke, his voice calm and indifferent, "How do you know about the Vanderbilt Family's search?" His words had a sharp edge, making the atmosphere a bit tense.
Adeline squinted, smiling at Charles with a glint of shrewdness in her eyes. "I guessed. Yesterday, when I was giving Mr. Vanderbilt acupuncture, he mentioned 'Savannah.'"
"I thought Nathan had told you." Charles tilted his head, smiled, and went back to his chess game. "Doesn't matter how you know; you're one of us."
