Chapter 99 Your Boyfriend

"Carlos Lee." Carlos answered without hesitation, not even thinking about running. "We just wanted to scare you, that's all. We figured you were just a young girl, and if we yelled a bit, you'd leave Eldoria."

"Yeah! He's right! Who knew you'd beat us up?"

This was the most embarrassing thing they had ever faced as thugs!

Adeline had heard enough and said calmly, "You indeed scared me, so you owe me for emotional distress."

The thugs thought, 'Who's scaring who here?'

Right now, they were the ones with bruises and broken bones!

Adeline smiled. "What? You don't want to pay up? Fine, I'll call the cops, and you'll get a criminal record."

"Yes, we do!" Carlos reached out, wincing in pain. "We'll pay! Just tell us how much, and we'll scrape it together. Worst case, we'll give you all the money we made from our jobs!"

Adeline's tone was cool. "I don't want your money. Since you messed with my life, you can make it up by keeping Chrysanthemum Alley safe. If I see any trouble there again, I'll come to you."

"No problem! We live nearby!" One thug pounded his chest, spilling all their details.

Carlos couldn't believe how dumb his buddy was!

"We'll do what you say." Protecting the area was easy; they had to take jobs and do bad stuff anyway.

But Adeline looked up, crushing his hopes. "No more jobs. Give me your account and the app you're using. I need to know who wants me out of Eldoria."

So, this was her real goal all along!

Carlos thought for a moment and gritted his teeth. "You should know the rules; we can't just give out our job accounts."

Adeline smiled faintly. "How would I know the rules of your underworld?"

Carlos felt helpless, thinking, 'You looked like a pro at this!'

"Let me think about it; I..."

Adeline cut him off, "Fifty thousand dollars, for your job account and your expenses for protecting Chrysanthemum Alley during this time."

Carlos was stunned. "Fifty thousand dollars? You're giving us money?"

Weren't they supposed to pay her?

Adeline glanced at him. "I only acted because you targeted my patient. I didn't want to fight; I just wanted to do business with you. Otherwise, do you think I didn't notice you following me?"

Chase Edwards tried to explain, "I didn't mean to target your boyfriend, he..."

"Boyfriend?" Adeline frowned.

Charles, however, laughed. "What about me?"

Chase lowered his voice. "You didn't look like a good person and seemed like you wanted to attack us."

Looking at Adeline, Charles touched his bracelet with his fingertips and coughed lightly. His face was pale, his features handsome, and his eyes carried an indescribable mix of amusement and grievance.

Holly had used this same gesture, and Adeline thought Holly was quite pretentious. But when it was her patient, she didn't feel the same.

Chase also realized that Adeline was going to protect Charles and took a step back.

Adeline didn't say much. "So, are you giving me the account or not?"

Carlos was clearly conflicted.

"That person isn't even an adult yet, though he looks strong." Adeline lifted her chin. "And this man has a limp; are you going to keep dragging them into these illegal activities?"
