Chapter 58 Breaking Off the Engagement in Public
"Who do you think you are, trying to lead a team?" The guy who butted in was Matthew, showing up late as usual. His hands were still shaky, thanks to Adeline!
Matthew shot Adeline a nasty grin. "The Taylor Family must be desperate, bringing anyone to this seminar."
Oliver shrugged. "What's it to you?"
Matthew ignored him and turned to Steven. "Steven, take this advice. Stop hanging out with losers. Do you even know who she is?"
Steven, who couldn't stand Matthew's smug attitude, shot back, "I don't care who she is. I don't judge my friends by their background."
"That's why you're an idiot. It's one thing to be clueless about medicine." Matthew pointed at Adeline. "She's the fake daughter the Martinez Family kicked out."
What?
Steven froze.
Even Oliver looked up, surprised.
Now, all eyes were on them, including Harold, who once had a marriage contract with Adeline. He'd been eyeing Stella and hadn't noticed until now. His hand clenched tightly on his leg. 'Why is she here? Who let her in?'
Adeline sat there cool as a cucumber, propping her chin with one hand, looking lazy.
The room buzzed with whispers, all about her.
"No wonder she's here for the Lumina Vitae Foundation; it's her."
"But, I've never heard of a marriage contract between the Mitchell and Martinez Families."
"That was ages ago. Back when Summer was in charge, and the Mitchell Family proposed it."
Seeing the conversation shift to him, Harold couldn't stay calm. He stood up and marched straight to Adeline!
He shouted, "Didn't I make myself clear last time? Or do you not get it?"
Adeline, bored, popped a fruit candy in her mouth and switched hands to prop herself up.
Harold's handsome face was cold and full of disdain. "Let me spell it out again, I will never like you. The one I have a marriage contract with is Stella from the Martinez Family, not you."
With that, he waved his hand dismissively. "Face reality sooner rather than later. Stop dreaming that I'll marry you!"
Instantly, the chatter in the hall got louder!
Sara looked at Stella. "Didn't you say she was just a distant relative of the Martinez Family?"
Stella bit her lip, looking all innocent. "Ms. Cooper, she never wanted to go back to the countryside. She wanted to keep being the Martinez Family's daughter. We had no choice but to say that."
"She's really shameless." Sara didn't care about their lies. To her, this situation was even more humiliating for Adeline!
Getting rejected by Harold in front of everyone, how could she show her face again?
Thinking of this, Sara smiled. "Stella, you're the only daughter of the Martinez Family. Even Harold only acknowledges you."
Stella hesitated. "But she admires Harold a lot. She probably came here just to see him."
Everyone knew Adeline's only weakness was Harold.
"Now that you mention it, I remember she used to come to our school every day just to catch a glimpse of Mr. Mitchell."
"Yeah! I've heard that too. How could she ever be worthy of Mr. Mitchell?"
Just as people were laughing, there was a sudden loud noise!
