Chapter 29 The Cause of the Illness
She nailed it, and the room went dead quiet.
Everyone had their own reactions, all eyes glued to Adeline. Some felt bad for her, while others were straight-up shocked she told Charles he was on borrowed time right in front of everyone. Folks were wishing they could just plug their ears.
Charles's health was a big deal for the Livingston clan. They were all super worried about him. He came to Eldoria 'cause of some rumor said the miracle doc might be here. Just a rumor, but it was enough to drag the whole Livingston crew here, meaning Charles's condition was pretty bad.
She really knew how to hit where it hurt. But Charles was still young; there was still hope.
Adeline, under everyone's stare, didn't even flinch. She was deep in thought.
Aaron and Brian exchanged looks and quickly signaled the docs to scram.
Nathan's heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively wanted to pull Adeline away.
The Livingston bodyguards next to Charles were instantly on high alert. They'd already been suspicious of Adeline, and now it seemed like there was definitely something up!
Patrick Livingston was fuming! "What crap are you spewing? How dare you curse Mr. Livingston?"
His tall frame loomed over Adeline, like he could totally control her! A shadow fell over Adeline, but she wasn't fazed and just looked at Charles.
She knew Charles wouldn't let his guys touch her.
Sure enough, Charles raised his hand to stop them, coughed lightly, and said warningly, "Patrick."
Patrick clenched his fists. "She's cursing you."
Adeline pulled her hand back. She'd been in the medical game for years and was used to this kind of stuff.
After all, no one likes hearing the word "death."
Adeline had her principles; no trust, no treatment.
When she was five, someone told her that if she met someone noble but down on their luck, she had to help.
Adeline's thoughts were simple. She'd never met such a noble person before, so she helped since it was convenient.
Unexpectedly, his family freaked out.
Adeline always believed that treating illnesses was also about fate, so she didn't want to push it. Just as she moved her hand away, Charles spoke, still smiling, "I know."
He knew?
Everyone was shocked. He knew he didn't have much time left, yet he was so chill?
Charles asked, "Do you choose me because you sensed the source of my illness?"
Adeline nodded. "Your illness is deep in your bones, probably congenital. This is my first time seeing it, and I need more time to figure it out."
Patrick's jaw dropped as he heard this.
She actually guessed that Charles's illness was congenital!
The cause of the illness was complicated and a Livingston family secret, unknown to outsiders!
Patrick stepped forward excitedly.
"Patrick," Charles called again, his voice cold and warning. "Don't be rude."
Patrick said, "Mr. Livingston, if she can identify your illness, she must be able to cure you!"
"Don't put too much faith in me. I can only treat illnesses, not save lives. A cure might be hopeless," Adeline said slowly. "The source of your illness is unclear and the condition is complex. Plus..."
Charles chuckled and finished her sentence, "Plus, you're also tired. Let's not continue the diagnosis today."
"Talking to a smart person is easy and pleasant." Adeline looked at him, her eyes slightly raised, a smile reappearing, and she lightly touched his wrist with her finger. "Your illness needs to be handled with care."
